rimfire4969
I guess there is a online petition to have him released as there seems to be one for everything else.
Mentalmac
Keeping the gun was one thing, but keeping a whole bunch of ammo for it is a whole other story in my opinion.

wymberley
Keeping the gun was one thing, but keeping a whole bunch of ammo for it is a whole other story in my opinion. Yep, the headline glossed over the bit about the additional mini arsenal which makes Teal's point perfectly valid.

fenboy
No one should be above the law, that's the point of it. Agreed , to say he wanted the pistol to remember those that were lost is poppycock too , if you have been through that you would need nothing to remind you . kingo15
Yeah but there is no consistency in passing sentence. There was a little scrote who was caught with a sawn off in public and never got a sentence like this. Plus all the drugs etc.

mossy835
he should not have had the gun,if that was any of us we would have got more time,he was let off light.
cueball
Think he should have got 5 yr's personally. If I had a pistol plus near 130 9mm ammo I would have. His past employment means he knew damn well it was illegal.
Vince Green
The police don't search your house for no reason. He gets no sympathy from me. The law is not optional, that's not to say its always right but its always the law
Gordon R
It seems that some people who have served in the armed forces - serving their country above and beyond - think they have a divine right to hang on to guns and ammunition. Oddly, they seem to want to retain ammunition, even though it is only the gun they claim to value. I would need to see a polygraph strapped to their arm, before I believed their fairy tales. They trot out truly pathetic tales about forgetting they had it or it having sentimental value. The fact is they think they are above the law and are worrying individuals. More worrying are the supporters who swallow this guff and think they are harshly treated.
jam1e
The man is an idiot and got off lightly. I suppose his supporters think he should have a knighthood. Hardly an idiot..... And lightly my ****. A stupid thing to do, maybe.... As regards the ammo, yes, a tit! Edited April 15, 2016 by jam1e
jam1e
very correct, once you cross the line regardless of what you have done in the past your'e just a plain simple criminal No excuses I agree as regards crossing the line. However, I've know of cases that go under the "National" press radar, where ****s from organised crime groups only got a tad more months. Mitigation, and intent spring to mind.... (Not with regard to the ammo) Edited April 15, 2016 by jam1e
jam1e
People are under some illusion that everyone in possession of pistols and ammo get 5 years. This is rarely the case. I know of several ****s who are mixed up in crime, who got less for the same offence....
rjimmer
When long magazine shotguns became Section 1 Firearms, it was estimated that 375,000 such weapons, that had previously not been recorded/registered, 'went under the bed''. I expect some have been handed in under the amnesties, but I don't reckon the jails would have enough room if the rest were found.
ElvisThePelvis
Got off lightly, no credible mitigation, should have been 5 years minimum.
Gordon R
His mitigation makes the offence worse in my book. For those who think he was not an idiot, can I suggest a visit to a dictionary.
Cannon
Devils advocate. Had he been an American and an ex member of US Special Forces, he would have received a handshake and been sent on his way. Amazing the differences in laws between countries, where a crime punishable by imprisonment in one country is just the normal way of life in another. You can't compare the two, Handguns are legal in the USA not legal here, Shouldn't have had it, and knew that.

Amazing the differences in laws between countries, where a crime punishable by imprisonment in one country is just the normal way of life in another. As shaun says you can't compare the two. But I'm fairly sure if an American special forces soldier committed something that was illegal in the states he would be punished.
Cannon
Fair enough, but I'm not too sure if the handgun ban has made former pistol shooters extremely biased towards this sort of thing. I can't have it so why should he etc. I'm not defending the guy as he really should have known better.
