my mate was trying to sell me some tricker boots the other day for £150, RRP £395, they were very nice i must admit, no box,no receipt , and what i asked where he got them from he said tk maxx, im having none of it, i nearly poked him in the eye and told him to shut up.

is there anyway at pair of £400 leather brogue tricker boots would find there into tk maxx :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I understand they do sell good makes. But generally so I here just old stuff or things that not shifting anymore. I just cant see a quality London hand made shoe shop letting the shoes and or boots end up in tk maxx. It would like having a £400,000 rolls Royce for sale in the robin reliant garage for a quid😂😂😂😂

You certainly can luck into the odd useful but cheap pair of shoes or jackets in TK Max but I personally just can't be bothered to work through the racks, not everything that is reduced is good value. I wouldn't give wardrobe space to 95% of what's in there regardless of price.

Why wait to find a reduced pair of Trickers brogues boots when you can buy Loakes version at top price for considerably less and they're just as well made. My wife manages to find top brand hand bag bargains in there and I once bought some brand name glasses for silly money but it remains one of my least favourite places to shop.

I cant be bothered with TK Max as its like going to a car boot but must admit the few times i have been in they do seem to have some really decent gear at low prices but you have to wade through the **** to get to it. I may be wrong but i think they get there clothes in job lots normally from other stores so not necessarily the manufacturers.

You dont have a rack of blue shirts say in sizes 14"-24" collar, everything is done by size as its all different. As such if you find something really good its probably a one off in that one particular size.

My wife uses it a lot if we are going to a dinner and dance or something as there is normally racks up racks of different dresses and she has got some rather nice stuff for little money.

tk maxx sell all kinds of stuff you can get loads of goo quality stuff but as said on the previous posts you have to wade through tons of junk before you find them I have had some real good bargains its the sort of store that just buys from closed down stores and flogs it off so no store is the same and once its gone its gone

I know a fair bit about their business model and it's clever.

They have a team of buyers who work with big wholesalers and manufacturers (brands) to snap up big brand names where the price is hugely reduced. Everything you see in the shop has been bought at a big discount, sometimes it's old discontinued lines that fashion stores don't want, sometimes production runs that haven't passed quality control for minor things (wonky stitching, sizes slightly out etc), sometimes it is expensive branded items but produced for cheaper stores (CK and DKNY both do budget lines for stores like TK Maxx that they wouldn't attempt to sell them to highstreet fashion stores.

Aside from perhaps a wonky stitch once in a while and avoiding the budget branded lines the stuff is all good quality if you don't mind having something from last season. This is interesting because what they are really catering for are consumers who care more about the brand name rather than the garment itself.

This is where it then gets really clever. Sometimes they supplement their budget but-ins with really "hot" items that are in the fashion stores too. They still need to mark them down so sometimes whilst they advertise them in a big way they are actually loss leaders. BUT they counter this by creating their own brand names, stuff with fashionable names and great labelling. To most people these "fake" brands they invent look like expensive boutique brands that aren't recognised because they are so exclusive. They sit alongside the loss leaders in store and attract a lot of interest.

About 10% of the garments on sale in any store are from well known brands, the other 90% are TK Max invented brands who's garments are all manufactured in the Far East for pennies. If they sell each garment at an average price of £20 they more than cover the big brand loss leaders.

Totally believe that. I can be a label tart with the best of them but hardly recognize any of these so called high ticket brands in there , shirt ticket says originally sold for £195 reduced to a mere £75 but looks and feels like Primark's.

I've had a few great jumpers from there, I've a lovely mix wool and cashmere shooting green jumper which I picked up for £20. I'm not into labels or shopping and I like bargains so if I know it would cost more elsewhere and it suits my purpose I'm happy.
