David BASC
This has just been published in the BASC mag, but for those who are not members here is some interesting info: https://basc.org.uk/blog/press-releases/featured-news/new-basc-study-shows-firearms-licensing-postcode-lottery/ David

TIGHTCHOKE
Thank you for posting that David, very interesting to see that some of the Authorities can do it properly, in which case why are so many allowed to field such poor performance? Thankfully being a Cambridgeshire resident I have received exceptional service.
David BASC
N/A may mean the force had the information but refused to answer, that it isn’t recording all data across the parameter, or that it records the information in an inaccessible way such as holding individual paper records. Brodie
Very detailed report by BASC but does it tell us anything we didn't already know. A report on BASC's work to influence improvements would surely be more interesting.
Dunkield
So in the case where one renewal is much longer than the other, if you have coterminous do you take the worst if the two numbers? TVP is stated as 67 for FAC and 116 for SGC
bruno22rf
I,m with Brodie - would the BASC not be better off petitioning the Gov concerning this unacceptable situation rather than studying to the nth degree how bad it is in each area? Shooters have been left with illegally held firearms in many cases where a sec 7 has not been issued, besides the time wasted actually issuing temp permits. We pay good money for a service that is simply not being provided.
ElvisThePelvis
Massively inaccurate/out of date, my straight forward FAC application took 330 days in essex.
Snoozer
Yep i think the figures supplied to BASC have been fudged somewhat lol Straight SGC grant for Northants 68 days, now 102 and counting......................!
David BASC
Not fudged or out of date, based on figures gathered by our firearms team, accept that some will be faster or slower in some individual cases, but never the less clearly shows where problems are and identifying those we will target to work on, e.g. TVP ,details on the BASC web. And yes as well as working with target areas we are also working with the HO
Scully
I think everyone is already well aware of how poor the service is.
Bazooka Joe
According this then Durham have massively improved...the FLO has had a shake up so hopefully it's right...I'll find out soon as my S/G renewal is in the process as I type... I don't believe BASC are doing anything to challenge Police at all.
ninja_fox
I highlighted my 10 month+ wait for a grant to BASC years ago and the response was, 'wait until you get it granted and then write to the chief constable'. Needless to say I didn't renew the following year.

oowee
I think everyone is already well aware of how poor the service is. And now we have the evidence to back up the anecdote. Start with the facts then argue the case.
Guest stevo
Hmmm the guide shows Lincolnshire to renew SGC in 62 days. Well come Monday mine has been 60 days. And I've not heard a thing from them apart from a letter saying that I'm proberly going to get a temp cert When I sent my ticket in they still had 90 days to play with ! Edit to say I know four other people at my club have been waiting longer than me. Edited March 4, 2017 by stevo
belly47
KENT is absolutely awful. it's all very well putting this info out but what have BASC done about it? who have BASC spoken too at Kent Police? any direct quotes?
rbrowning2
Let's be honest the service we pay for is rubbish but do they care and what influence does basc or any of the shorting organisation have to change it? Do the police or homeoffice lose any sleep about it? Probably helps their case for the next round of fee increases. Well mr or mrs shooter want better service than you will just have to pay more. To get impovements you would need to take the fight to them and embarrass them via national news papers, TV and radio Read all about it ..... lots of guns illegally held ....... police taking no action And that just won't happen, because gentlemen just site round a table at meetings. That's the point 'they don't want it going public' as they are responsible for protecting the public and if the number of S7's became public knowledge then the public would know that they are failing. The licence fee has already increased with no improvement in service & and no amount of money will sort this current system out. Heads should be rolling within the depart because if it where a business the directors and managers would go. It needs a total re structure of even and I hate to say it 'a 3rd party operating it. The issue of an S7 is a admittance of failure and doesn't look good on their already poor stats. To be honest I don't know if all this is intentional , is it being ran into the ground so firearm can be banned?
