fitzy
Looking to get a .223 bolt action rifle. I want a lefty. Second hand almost impossible to find so it looks like I'm going for a new one. Budget at the limit so price is a factor. I've narrowed it down to the 527 American l/h screw cut with a walnut stock and a 1:12 twist or the Tikka T3 lite which is a little pricier (SS would add another £150). Reviews are generally excellent for both. Each have their little criticisms. The high bolt throw and safety is a niggle on the 527 and some criticise the use of plastics on the Tikka. What .223 lefty would you buy for under a grand ?
Rst1990
I went for the tikka t3x hunter for £970 not a huge fan of plastic stocks so went with the walnut,
bumpy22
had a t3 in 223 years ago. could not fault it except it was not deer legal. shot well with sako factory rounds if i remember correctly.
Kalahari
I have a CZ and am very pleased with it. Genuinely short action. David.
Andy RV
I've got both in different calibres. I'd go with the CZ in .223 due to the short action and steel mag.
fitzy
What do owners think of the CZ set trigger? There's plenty of adjustment and thought the set trigger would give the best of both worlds for hunting and target. tweedledee
i know both will be super accurate but I prefer the tikka....little better finished in my opinion

The set trigger is okay, although I rarely use it.
Kalahari
The trigger on the CZ is quite adjustable and you can try the set trigger and if you don't like it just don't use it. David.
Fisheruk
I have a Tikka T3, huntsman in 223. Love it.
welshwarrior
Can't forgive the T3 for using a long action for a mini action round. CZ 527 is a nice little micro action Mauser ideal for 223 etc.
the enigma
Can't forgive the T3 for using a long action for a mini action round. CZ 527 is a nice little micro action Mauser ideal for 223 etc. I have to agree with you. I've shot both in .222, and although the T3 has a smoother finish, I found the long bolt is a pain. Accuracy, both were 0.5 moa.............. but the secondhand cz set-up cost me half the price of Tikka.
zipdog
I looked at both in great detail and settled on the tikka. I agree the long action on the Tikka is a negative but the extra 1/2 a inch of travel isn’t really wearing my arm out. However i would now be tempted by the new Sauer 100, well worth a look if you haven’t already.

Dekers
I've had first hand experience with both and the Tikka would JUST edge it for me, but the CZ is very accurate and very good VFM. The difference is not really worth talking about, so get whichever you fancy most!
jam1e
Having owned both. I'd go for the Tikka. The "plastic issue" has never been an issue for me. Don't quite understand this "plastic" issue... The CZ was very accurate and nice and light. However, imo the trigger, both the set and "normal" need some polishing as they feel gritty as hell to me. Still accurate though.... Tikka all the way. Leagues apart in my opinion... James
Scully
Having owned both and being seriously impressed with both I'd personally go for the CZ purely on the basis it's better value for money. Both are pure workhorses but possibly the T3 would edge it in resale value if that's a factor for you. It wouldn't be for me.
Alpha Mule
Love my Tikka T3 Lite with its 'plastic' bodywork.
