Funny how you get all these people slagging them off.

and prob 90% of these people haven't been in one never mind owned one.

iv had a few Range Rover vogues and can say they are very good. as long as you service them to the book they are pretty reliable. Yes the brake down but all cars do.

the tdv8 is the best engine in my opinion.

engines and gearboxs failing at 14000 miles is rubbish.

You've either been incredibly lucky, or it's you that's imagined owning one

Ha,    How ironic,  Coming from from a wannabe cheshire housewife i'lI bet.

I'll grant you that irony was present, it was the type where the surface meaning is different to the intended meaning. In this case I wanted to point out that you are a complete tool without getting banned from the forum, which raises a further example of irony in that I'm now likely to be banned from the forum. Ironic, don't you think? And not a Cheshire housewife in sight.

P.S. - no capitals after a comma, it's Cheshire, I'll, and your space bar is stuck. Retard.

Bought my 04 plate 4.4 v8 about 4 months ago - yes it has cost more in fixing faults in that time than my previous Saab did in 5 years of ownership but they kinda grow on you. I went to look at a BMW X5 that turned out to be a bit of a dog but there was a RR for sale at the same garage and as soon as I sat in it I wanted one. Mine purrs like only a v8 can and sitting on the motorway in those luxurious leather seats, feeling the car sit down on the suspension after a few miles listening to the stunning music system is so addictive that you can forgive the beasts attempt to bankrupt you at every opportunity. NOTHING drives like the RR and you need to experience it before slagging them off. Maintenance can be reduced by miles if you are a little savvy and steer clear of RR dealers - my last service invoice shows that the previous owner paid £25 per Spark Plug!!!!! There are plenty of smaller garages that specialise in RR's and good ones are well known on the owners forums - besides that basic servicing ie Oil and Filter change can be done easily at home for under £75 using good quality Oil.

I know that what im about to write is not abkut a range rover but im afraid all of these large luxury suvs are the same my neighbour has a 2011 bmw x5 with absolutely everything on it.  Now she has had this car from brand new and has only done 40,000 miles.  This year so far the brake light in the rear window failed costing over 600 just for the part!!!!  and then it developed a fault with either the gearbox or the rear diff i cant remember which,   this resulted in the car being at bmw for nearly two weeks and a bill of 4.5k  and she didnt even get a bloody curtesy car.  Now this car has never been off road and barely leaves the driveway. The only reason its got 40k on it is she has a holiday home in norfolk otherwise it would have maybe 10k miles on it.     Now ive no idea how much this was new but that to me is disgusting from an expensive car that is serviced every year by bmw and somethinv to be weary of if you buy one second hand as they maybe affordable second hand but im afraid the running costs are not at all.

You know what they say...

No....

but i’m Guessing one is a spare for when the other breaks......

Ultimately they are a luxury car and with big bills and you won’t hear about the reliable ones.  As ever but on history and condition and budget plenty for repairs

Another anti LR post :)

To the OP, do yourself a favour and go onto a LR forum where you will find out all the quirks and issues for any given year and model. That way you can make your own mind up on whether or not you want to go for one.

Reading any LR post on here, I'm shocked every time I see one on the road, it's like a miracle every time!

Me too !

Its not like I know anything about cars, only been buying and selling them for 30 years, garage owner and all that.
Not like I speak to customers who own them on a regular basis.

A quick google at the LR  forums and reliability stats should tell the OP all he needs to know about the subject.

Lovely ride though when theyre not in the garage

have owned one sold it due to costs of repairs I then went to td5 disco again sold due to high costs for repairs,i now own a defender which has cost me very little over the last couple of years, but I will say it mostly just decorates my drive so hopefully it will not break if not used, both rr and disco are fantastic rides, just from my experience the cost outweighed the comfort,

Not wishing to derail the thread but just read this in the DM:

I think I want one now :whistling:

:) A mate of mine who more or less lives in St. Petersburg but comes back now and then to buy another property ( I hate him ) told me he enjoyed his 'Sport' much more than the equivalent Mercedes he owned previously. I don't know which model of Merc' it was.

So my experience with the Range Rover Sport (basically a Disco III under the body) is bought one New in 2005 did 70,000 miles no issues. Traded it in 2008 for another one did 132,000 miles in it to 2017 only failed item was a new compressor for the air suspension which cost £600. Traded it last year for a 2007 FFRR Vogue 3.6 TDV8 with 49,000 on the clock, it runs and drives like dream. Considered taking out warranty but comes out at about £1000 a year. So decided to take AA extended breakdown which gives you £500 to cover cost of repair for up to 5 claims a year, which costs me £26 a month for the RR and my wife's Volvo.

Have driven several and would love to own one but the problem we seem to have in this part of the world is dealerships which are as poor as the electrics on these wonderful motors. A mate, who runs a commercial repair biz has had several newish Landrovers (Sport, Vogue, Discos) but refuses to use our main dealerships. I took a courtesy vehicle, a new Disco 5, to a RR owner who was awaiting a new engine after one of those main dealers forgot to put oil in his vehicle following the first service! Saw the same person again when the gearbox had to be replaced too. As someone said earlier OK to own if you buy with a long warranty otherwise expect a life of grief and expenditure.

Have had 2 Q7'sfrom new,  which have been faultless. now time to change so got the garage routine this weekend to look forward too narrowed down to the Cayenne, Q7, GLD, Q7 and Range Rover Sport. Have always wanted the RR and only because of the attitude of the dealership on the last 2 occasions has stopped me taking one. Like everyone else though it seems like every other RR is built on a Friday afternoon. It's a massive bug bear the fact you buy one and spend the next 6 months driving a courtesy car more than you own!

Then every now and again you get an owner who has 5 in a row and never had a spot of bother!

To take the plunge or not?????

The landrover itch is not a rational thing, but scratching it is damned good.

I have an old disco, father had a rangie that was tremendous fun. Personally I dont like the new ones as I hate chasing electrical faults and the financial depreciation, but if you can stomach the warranty or maintenance cost and depreciation of a new one they are lovely.

You could get several old ones...
