spandit
Just received this (albeit in my spam folder): Quote It appears that, (xxxx - actually a genuine password I used to use), 's your password. You may not know me and you are most likely wondering why you're getting this e-mail, right? actually, I put in place a trojans on the adult vids (porno) website and guess what, you visited this web site to have fun (you really know what What i'm saying is). When you were watching videos, your internet browser began operating like a RDP (Team Viewer) which provided accessibility of your screen and web cam. from then on, my computer software obtained all your contacts from the Messenger, Microsoft outlook, Facebook, in addition to emails. What did I really do? I created a double-screen video. 1st part shows the recording you are watching (you have a good taste haha . . .), and 2nd part shows the recording of your webcam. what exactly should you do? Well, in my opinion, $1000 is really a fair price for our little secret. You'll make the payment by Bitcoin (if you do not know this, search "how to buy bitcoin" search engines like google). Bitcoin Address: 1EAJitpABymnQgL1GzwY8PNaoUyjh22dBe (It is case sensitive, so copy and paste it) Very important: You've 1 day in order to make the payment. (I have a special pixel within this e mail, and at this moment I know that you've read this email message). If I do not get the BitCoins, I will certainly send out your video recording to all of your contacts including family, colleagues, and so forth. Having said that, if I get the payment, I'll destroy the recording immidiately. If you need evidence, reply with "Yes!" and i'll definitely send out your videos to your 6 contacts. It is a non-negotiable offer, that being said don't waste my personal time and yours by responding to this message. Quite scary as it did indeed include a password and e-mail address that I use (or have used in the past). Suffice to say, if anyone is that interested in what I look like watching pornography online, then they're in luck because I'm not stupid enough to pay them. A brief Google search indicates that this is a widespread scam using a list of hacked passwords and e-mails that have been leaked onto the Internet at some point. I imagine some poor person has actually been frightened enough to make the transaction but if anyone else gets this message, please don't do anything other than delete it as nothing is going to happen. Oh, and change your passwords... Edited July 30, 2018 by spandit
Retsdon
I spend $30 a year or whatever it is for an Avast account that hopefully picks up any kind of malware. Don't know if it works 100 percent or not but it gives me peace of mind. But as you say, this is a hacked email address and password. In any event, as the Duke of Wellington said, 'publish and be damned!'

JJsDad
Isnt there a Police department that this sort of blackmail can be reported to ? While you have stood up to the thieving scum, some other poor sod will think his life is in ruin`s and elect to pay. Having paid, I expect further demands would follow. the hitman
Best advice is to ignore this email, then delete anything further emails without opening if you don’t recognise the sender. I often get fake invoices which I just delete. Hitman

Scully
A friend of mine received an almost identical one a few days ago, claiming they could see her playing with herself while watching porn. Total danglies!

Are you on LinkedIn by any chance? They are reckoned to have lost 117 million email/password combinations back in 2012: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_LinkedIn_hack some of these combinations have recently begun surfacing in the hands of email scammers... my bet would be that a new portion (perhaps all) of the list has been sold or made available in a cracked form, opening it to a broader scammer base. joejoe
I would recommend you change your password. A different one for each site which I know is a bit of a pain. You can use encrypted password vaults like dashline or something. Funny enough I'm just doing a it security course (certificate in information security management). I use an opaque tape that lets light through as some devices use the camera to adjust the screen brightness.
spandit
Had a look in Firefox to see what sites I'd used that username/password combination on - there's quite a number! I've mostly changed to individual passwords for sites and use a less important email address but it's a reminder of how important security can be online Part of me still curious to know if they've taken a video of me although it would be a solo effort!
