rapid rich
Anyone wear either of the above boots? Army surplus grade 1 ? I'm after a pair for the winter instead of Wellingtons all the time... Which are the best to go for and any recommendations of where to buy? Thanks Rich
Scully
Even though I have Meindl I hear nothing but good things from other lads on the shoot ( guns, beaters and pickers up ) regarding Altberg boots. They are made in Richmond which is just down the road from us, and they do in house repairs and restorations at their unit too. They often have secondhand pairs in for sale. johnphilip
I got a pair and still have them from the factory in Richmond over 30 years ago . Had them rehealed once they came back looking like new . There like a pair of slippers so comfy. They get knocked about , used to do a lot if beach walking that did not help . But they get a good wash and good polish . And good to go again .

GingerCat
For last winter I had a pair of karrimore sf cold weather boots. Lined etc etc. Very warm very waterproof and very comfy. Half the price of the altbergs and having had both they are just as good.

hatter
I have a pair of Altberg Defenders and am very impressed with them. Paid £70 brand new in the box of the bay. Fantastic value for money.
welshwarrior
I now only wear Altbergs tried everything in the army and the only ones that lasted where Altberg added to that they are made in Britain
Hector Vector
I have the Alt-Berg Defenders and they are very good, comfy out of the box and as long as you keep them well greased they're totally water proof. I recently bought Haix to replace them as the Defenders are getting a bit past it and I cannot get on with them - they cripple me! Seem to have difficulty in finding new, unissued Defenders in size 8 wide for some reason...

Have no idea if this is practical for you, but well worth knowing.
walshie
I suppose different makes suit different people as I have a pair of Haix (not sure which model, but not the ones with the mesh sides, they are all leather) and they are more comfortable on my feet than my trainers. oldypigeonpopper
Hello, I must admit to liking leather boots but I spend more time in a pair of old wellies, except on shoot days beating, then my lovely Aigles

hod
Just bought a new pair recently, great boots - take a little breaking in as they’re proper sturdy things, not uncomfortable though. Have another pair I’ve worn every second day or so, for 15 years. Looking a little tired now but really just need resoled. First pair ordered directly half a size different from each other. DUNKS
Yes they do have a made to measure service. They will even keep a mould of your feet so you just order your next pair online. IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.
