henry d
Possibly due to a few different things but I have been looking at getting some garden dining furniture and we looked at the usual suspects but they were either way too expensive or not easy to store and lots were unavailable/out of stock. We then looked at café/restaurant furniture and even these were either unavailable or prices were increasing over the space of a couple of weeks. Fortunately gumtree has been good to us and we got six aluminium and whicker chairs and two tables for a little over a ton. However the seller was selling up as his pub had failed. I wonder if there are a few factors, Covid, lack of resources, people spending on home improvements, a dirty great ship stopping many ships.... Are you seeing any lack of things that you could easily lay hands on a year ago?

amateur
Black and Decker Workmate for our son-in-law. Ordered from 3 people. The first accepted the order, saying that it was in stock, then revised the delivery date until May. Cancelled them. The second also said that they would deliver in 2 days, then they cancelled - lack of stock. Third time lucky! Needless to say, by now, I had knackered them both, but they were still just usable. Anyhow, my wife treated me to a nice new one last Christmas, provoking tool envy from our SIL, so, given how helpful he was during my recent illness, I tried, and eventually got him one
henry d
I forgot to add that I also had difficulty getting home brew kits during lockdown as lots of people decided to give it a try.

We are fortunate enough to have not been affected by unemployment or furlough, I've been retired almost ten years and my wife worked in an SEN school until last summer and then retired, so we are very fortunate at the moment but should goods, particularly food, go up in price then we may struggle

team tractor
I have a new van on order . Ordered January and still no build week . ( Vw Germany had covid) 10mm glass was out of stock in January as it’s from China . my mate owns a bike shop with no bikes to stock really . In the uk their is 3 wholesalers for internal doors . They had 50 oak Thames for the uk at one point 😂. We had the lot . we’ve been waiting up to 4 months for flb doors for council work . We buy 500 a year of the one door type. ( the timber is from Russia and sent to Spain ) Click flooring carries 50,000 pallets in stock in Belgium but has zero . The issues are the stock has all been used up with no one to manufacture
henry d
One of the reasons why we are waiting until next year (?) to have our extension built, if it continues then I might just blow it on a second hand boat.

Paint it a garish colour if management complains it's ugly. Will work better than some chiensium cast monstrosity too.
JohnfromUK
There are lots of things. Topically - today, Easter eggs are apparently in short supply. I got my few for my nieces and nephew a couple of weeks ago - they had been in the supermarket since not long after Christmas, but (I hear locally) now hard to get. Apparently demand hugely greater than last year. On other things, I think much more DIY, gardening, has been done - and 'outside entertaining' - bbqs, tables, sun shades, patio heaters (the green 'hate' item), fire pits have apparently all been greatly in demand. My impression is that whilst a few have been (badly in some cases) hit by lack of income, a great many have had a normal, or near normal income, but have spent far, far less on going out, holidays etc, so have invested in home improvements, gardens, and household 'bells and whistles' instead. Hence the shortages. I know a few local tradesmen who have been booked solid and are doing 'very well thank you' from the present situation. Vince Green
A lot of retailers are still closed or very restricted. Its easier not to order stock you might get stuck with and lose out on sales, than to fill your warehouse and risk another lockdown with all your money tied up The ordering process takes a long time, what you are seeing now is the result of the uncertainty last year
jonny long shanks
I did a bit of panic buying the other week to make sure I could still work. Everbuild and adshead Ratcliffe stopped manufacturing silicone sealant due to lack of raw materials. My supplier said it was down to a mix of brexit and covid. I'm glad I picked up the 20 boxes when I did as they sold out very quickly and I'm down to my last few boxes. Manufacturing starts back up on Tuesday apparently but no idea when the next delivery is

scobydog
A company moved into the old warehouse that my wife's former company owned, they make garden furniture and can't do it fast enough to meet orders despite taking on extra staff. I think the situation with some goods proves how we've be come to reliant on imports because we want to pay bottom dollar for everything imho.
