samboy
Hi gang. I've been using schmierfix liqui moli. I don't like it much as it seems to turn black quickly even though i clean my gun regularly. So can anyone recommend a clear grease please. Thanks all. Scully
The only grease I’ve ever used on my guns is Hoppes No 9.
Wylye
I have a pot of 'high performance engineering grease with PTFE'. Just ordinary brown stuff as far as I can see. Its years old and used sparingly, as you should, it will last for a few more years yet. Doesn't go black either like the Schmeierfix does. Not sure that you need anything extraordinary or expensive to use on a shotgun.

steve_b_wales
The only grease I use is Copperslip on the threads of chokes and rifle barrels.
Johnny English
I use the napier VP90 white/ creame gun grease, it's pretty good. Have also used the tetra grease as smoker above which was pretty good.

Gunman
When an apprentice we used to mix half Vaseline half 30 grade oil with a squirt of Youngs 303 for all the internals of boxlock . chesterse
I converted onto Schmierfix last year and really like it. I’ve never noticed it going black but I do regrease it every time I have used the gun.

Minky
Only a smear of headgecutter gearbox grease on the barrel pivot and anywhere of high load. That grease spec is way higher than needed. Tetra is good. Edited February 14, 2022 by Minky
JohnfromUK
In my view, any good grade general purpose grease - Castrol, Mobil, Halfords etc. The job it does in a gun is 'light duty'. Key thing is cleanliness - wipe off old grease when cleaning, taking away dirt, dust, grit etc with it ........ and apply just a smear of fresh clean grease on hinge pin and as said above "the barrel pivot and anywhere of high load". Old grease with picked up dirt, grit, dust and similar forms a grinding paste.
cardigun
If you use black grease, you are sure to get it on your shirt !
Westward
I don't understand why that would happen as I've been using the same stuff for many years and never had it turn black. I get it from Alan Rhone and it's the recommended lube for Krieghoffs - which is good enough for me.
