Very scary. Good to hear you and yours are safe. Fortunately global warming is a myth otherwise this could have been serious.

An awful situation to be in?

Come on chap, there is no doubt about global warming but? History proves it has heated and cooled many times before, maybe not as quickly but the natural world can't stand still?

The difference now is the fact that certain names seek 5 minutes of fame and wealth from it? Taken up by vacuous politicos seemingly here willing to  bankrupt the country for no effect on the global situation?

How to figure that out when there is little or no common sense at the helm? No doubt a few nameless individuals are making money from the general misery?

That's the beauty of science.

Science that has no way of being proved or disproved, is not science, it's religion.

Many scientific theories have been disproven down the line, even though the general scientifc consensus agreed with the theory.

Someone has yet to explain, how taxing us is helping save the planet.

When they stop it being a money making scheme, then I might start to believe it.

Until then, man made climate change is nothing more than a unproven theory, being used to make money for governments.

The climate is changing, that is a fact. Whether we have any major role in that, not so much. And more importantly whether we have any control over it............

When I was a schoolboy (a long time ago) the future predictions for energy were;

  1. Oil would 'run out'.  We now know there are reasonably plentiful reserves, but often in politically difficult places
  2. There was LOADS of coal for around 300 years - and coal would be mined to make replacement 'oil and gas' type fuels for vehicles etc.  There is loads of coal - but we are 'forbidden' to mine it.
  3. Electricity would come (cheap and essentially unlimited quantities) from nuclear fusion.  Still apparently 50 years off - as it was then
  4. The climate risk (not much talked about, but what talk there was) was mostly about another possible Ice Age!  Must have been 'good science!'

Shows how much we actually know about these things.

The problem isn't fossil fuels, the problem is too many people.

No Body important, I'm glad your all safe and sorry to see the destruction, I'm sure you'll clear your own property in no time and I hope your community rebuilds quickly.

Your posts and contributions to this forum are incredible, you never seem to have a dull day, life is an adventure and nature is incredible both beautiful and deadly. You'll always have things to remember and tell the grand kids 👍

Good to see you and yours are OK and those preps were working for you.

As far as climate change/global warming goes, I wonder what people used to say about storms, forest fires ect pre industrial age times ?
When the weather was unusually hot, or cold, or their house was flattened by flood or storm, they had no concept of why this would happen, was it just bad luck, or the wrath of the gods ?
No doubt back then there would be some who would blame some supernatural force for it, and make a name for themselves as some kind of prophet or seer.
These days we have a media, hungry for views, or politicos, virtue signalling their path to popularity.
Im waiting for them to start blaming earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the new religion of climate change.

Are people that thick ?

Well guys, I made it out to the deer camp.  I’m pretty sure my corn feeders/ tree stand are gone.  I got a 1000$ worth of trail cams I’m going to try to recover. I can’t transverse the property as it is.  I am going to try to get back up there with my excavator and chainsaws to see what I can find.  It’s kinda disorienting with so many trees down.  And trees hung up in standing trees.  I have 10 cameras and I could only find 4.  I’m not complaining as whole towns were wiped off the map up this way.  Losing a few hundred trees at a deer camp is low on the list of tragedies.  But the wildlife pond held up well.  I had prepared myself to have to rebuild the dam.  dji_fly_20241001_152346_162_1727726041651_photo.jpeg.21a64ecdd5359b82422f1405f622030f.jpegIMG_8781.jpeg.4aa10be7fead29a07448aa306e5c53ae.jpegIMG_8779.jpeg.3a5d38457d5c89b511037f5f19c5eb1f.jpegIMG_8770.jpeg.293a4b16a5e62332bf6ad3c1bd1a0b6b.jpegIMG_8769.jpeg.e9e2c11118546d565ece69735c202b93.jpeg

Looks like parts of Kent now 🤣

I know we can have a giggle, but many people are dead, with many missing in this disaster 😕 So please can we all bear that in mind 🙏👍

The raw power of nature.  I well remember our "huricane" of 87.  The Mrs woke me in the middle of the night around about 5 and said listen to the wind... wind, it was howling.  Then a couple of tiles rattled down the roof.  The house was literally shaking.  The wind had gotten into the ventilation airbricks and then up through the structure and was forcing the room carpets up.  Luckily we didn't have hardly any other damage.  Later the thing that I remember was the complete silence. The only other time was in covid lock down.  No cars, no planes just the wind..  We didn't have electricity for about 3 weeks and no tv or radio coverage. The Internet hadn't happened then.  The isolation was strange.  By late morning people were trying to get places and I tried to get into work to find how much damage had been done.  We couldn't get through to anywhere because of the amount of trees that blocked everywhere. We survived.  The other day I watched weather coverage of Helene on Ryan Hall..Yaall.   they are a load of geeks BUT they seem to know what they are talking about. They alert people about dangerous tornados and weather.  They collect money and distribute it to help people.  We don't understand the magnitude and power of storms like Helene because being more north the seas aren't as hot as the gulf to power weather like that.  We aren't peppers but we do carry amounts of stuff that we could operate for a long time in the event of a serious weather incident.  So much so that the kids have said that in the event of the Zombie invasion, that they are coming here for the food, ammunition and the money.ĺ!!.. it's nice to know that you are wanted. 🥰😁

Ps. You don't want any nice guns over there at give away prices do you,  because nearly everyone is offloading there guns at give away prices at auction here.  About 5000 a month exported to the states.

Edit.  Those  pictures of the fallen trees are similar to places around here in Kent.   In fact some places here were even more of a tangle.  Chain saws that hadn't been used for years were out.  Many people were injured in the clearing of dangerous trees by inexperience resulting in fallen trees rolling over and crushing the person cutting it.

The storm of 87 for us was not on the same level of the one the op is now contending with , but at the time we had never seen anything like it , I lived in my other house then that was on the edge of the marshes , the wind  was strong but nothing out of the ordinary , I walked my dog first thing in the morning and the first thing I noticed was the amount of the ole red pantiles that were laying in the road and the odd one on top of the cars , this would be around 7.30 and the forecast was for the wind to increase as the morning wore on . I then knew this was going to be a day to remember , I packed my lunch and set off to my work place that was deep in the countryside , I got round the first fallen tree but I didn't know at the time that this was the only one I could get round as the next one was huge and no way could you get past , by this time there were Blue lights going off everywhere and I headed back to the main road , cars were crawling through but it wasn't long before they came to a standstill , I was then only about a 1/4 of a mile from a big lake we had that had a smallish hotel beside it , so I walked there from my motor to ask them to ring my office to let them know I can't get in as all the roads were blocked , getting to the hotel I knew the manager and he couldn't get through as the lines were down caused by the fallen trees , the wind was howling then and while we were talking there was a huge bang and when he opened a bedroom door he had the chimney stack inside the bedroom that had just come through the ceiling , this was enough for me and I started to make my way back home as my wife would had been a nervous wreck , getting back home she was calmer than me and by the dinner time the worst of the storm was over and the clearing up was about to start , we were on storm damage for weeks and weeks and if I remember rightly we had several really windy days but nothing like we had on that fateful day .     MM

In 1987, living in a London suburb with tree-lined streets, I couldn't get to work for 3 days until the streets had been cleared.

My boss, who lived further out in Kent, was stranded for two weeks, as the little lanes around his house were totally blocked. He was out with his neighbours and a chainsaw, doing his bit to reach civilization.

Fortunately, his freezer and wine cellar were well-stocked.
