old'un Posted Wednesday at 11:45 Author Report Share Posted Wednesday at 11:45 makes me wonder how these armed officers would have reacted if the young lad had pointed the toy gun in their direction???? what!!..A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Toy guns should only be used on private property, with permission from the landowner." scarecrow243 Posted Wednesday at 11:46 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 11:46 the uk is getting worse and there replies A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Toy guns should only be used on private property, with permission from the landowner what utter nonsense
Scully Posted Wednesday at 11:52 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 11:52 I despair at times, I really do. There is no obligation by anyone to only play with toy guns on private property. The spokesperson is clearly trying to deflect criticism due to an over-reaction. The police have no option other than to respond, and they obviously soon realised they were kids playing with toys, but I’d be having an in depth talk to whoever reported it. enfieldspares Posted Wednesday at 12:06 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 12:06 (edited) T'is my reaction also. I think that the kids have been "SWATTED" as the Americans term it. Look it up. That is a "Karen" (another American term) be it male or female has taken umbrage to these children playing and has called the police with malicious will and so scripted her call to 999 as to get the response that arrived. It should be that the person who made the call is also visited by the police. 15 minutes ago, Scully said: The police have no option other than to respond, and they obviously soon realised they were kids playing with toys, but I’d be having an in depth talk to whoever reported it. beatie Posted Wednesday at 12:36 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 12:36 is this the police making it up as they go along or is it any report of a firearm is training for them at whatever cost

den5008 Posted Wednesday at 12:58 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 12:58 I’ll take this with a pinch of salt. The press do like to blow stories out of proportion to make a story, can’t imagine like what the mum said “armed police running towards the children shouting “ get down, armed police” , there not that stupid that they can’t see two kids playing with bright orange or blue nerf guns🙄

ph5172 Posted Wednesday at 13:04 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:04 (edited) It would be interesting to see if they actually were nerf guns. the press bit says reminder for toys, airsoft and BB Notice there is not the usual ‘poor old me’ picture of a child and his prized nerf gun which I thought would have taken pride of place on any story Edited Wednesday at 13:04 by ph5172
clangerman Posted Wednesday at 13:17 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:17 this is what police training gets you people who would have made perfectly good officers now unable to tell fact from fiction their common sense gone along with the ability to think for their self removed and our taxes are paying for it! BobbyH Posted Wednesday at 13:24 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:24 Mental! When i was a kid, i was lucky enough to have Cap Guns, Spud Guns and then those cheap multi Coloured BB guns from the seaside shops. BUT....Its the same as any media coverage, i wasnt there, i dunno if they were NERF guns or not?
Westley Posted Wednesday at 13:47 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:47 (edited) ALL of these comments on the strength of a news report ?? I smell a claim for compensation and a month in the Bahamas coming up ? By the same score it is only last week a Police Officer was stabbed in the arm and a female Police Officer run down by a car. A 14 year old has just been charged with murder.........and so it goes on. Not surprising that the 'ello, ello, ello, what's going on ere then" ? approach no longer applies. I know nothing about these plastic guns, but a news report below the linked one, reported that a kids party was interrupted after someone rang the Police saying they could hear the sound of gunfire. That was a different setting, but 2 armed response vehicles were sent and RIGHTLY so. They ended up having photos taken with the kids involved. ph5172 Posted Wednesday at 15:44 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 15:44 I know. Imagine telling a reporter (who gets paid to sensationalise the subject) exactly the bits you want to tell them knowing that the other party is limited in the response it’s allowed to give. Scully Posted Wednesday at 15:58 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 15:58 It was on the radio also; repeating the same old tripe of the police spokesperson, that toy guns should only be played with on private property. Why hasn’t any journalist asked ‘why’?

Why hasn’t any journalist asked ‘why’? Maybe the fact that some people have been justifiably shot by armed police, when waving a 'toy' gun around. I shall await, but will probably never see, the outcome of the body camera's videos of the Officers attending. I am not going down the road of 'at what point do pull the trigger '........it's been done to death. (Pun intended)

(Pun intended) well in that case we might as-well lock kids away and never let them out with anything that might be mistaken for a real gun. Unless of course its on private property as suggested by a police spokesperson, then its never likely to happen is it???
Dougy Posted Wednesday at 16:30 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 16:30 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-45412616 This report from 2018 paints a completely different picture, what a difference in how we react to a story and how it should have been handled and reported. I dont think i would be here now with the policing and the gun culture they have to deal with today, we used to go out with air pistols and rifles down the road to a filed and shoot at all sorts, a treat was down the tip shooting at cans. Nobody battered an eyelid if they saw a load of kids out playing as we did. But we had nothing like the crime we have now, getting to sound like my Dad "when i was a kid"
