djrwood Posted Wednesday at 12:52 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 12:52 Afternoon, any keen riders on here? I passed my full license last week, so now on look out for a bike. It’s annoying that many garages do not allow test rides unless you’ve had your license for a year. I did find an independent dealer and took an Indian Scout Sixty out yesterday which I loved, but on the basis it’s the first bike I looked at I’ve decided not to rush in to it. Im sure I want a cruiser style bike. Just wondering if you have any advice for a first bike. I think the Indian is top of my list, followed by a Sportster and then I keep looking at a Kawasaki Vulcan 650. Any advice would be appreciated
ryle Posted Wednesday at 13:01 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:01 Biking will be my backup hobby for when Sir Kier has removed my shooting hobbies Id love my full bike licence and used to have a honda cg125 which seemed bullet proof. Ive had plenty of friends in the past who are bikers and there seems to be a real good community with it. All the best with it and enjoy! BobbyH Posted Wednesday at 13:05 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:05 I’m a keen biker, and same as above, it’s my backup enjoyment have a Burgman 400 for sale, not quite a scooter, not quite a motorcycle…. an automatic fully loaded Maxi-Scoot! Well done on passing!

7daysinaweek Posted Wednesday at 13:50 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 13:50 Our bike days are over now, From 2000 up until around 2013 had a suzuki 400, yamaha yzf 600 x2, cbr 600 and a fazer 600. The fazer 600 was are a great sports tourer and mrs 7days had a lovely one, could ride out for hours and get off it fresh. Things have probably moved on a good bit now if you looking for something brand new.

oldypigeonpopper Posted Wednesday at 19:19 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 19:19 Hello, I passed my Bike test in 1965 on a Francis Barnett first time but it took 2 tests to get my full car licence, must have been all that dirt track riding old motor bikes on the farm, i did get nostalgic on the 2 wheels many many years later so bought a honda twin, got that all done up then rode it to work and sold it that day🤔😒😄
amateur Posted Wednesday at 21:10 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 21:10 I passed my bike test in 1967 and have never been without a bike ever since. I do limit myself to two, though, otherwise I would fill all the sheds and garage.

Wylye
I was 60 when I rode my last bike. A mate and I went a 150 mile trip through Dorset and Wiltshire, he had a 750 Honda 4 and I was on a borrowed CBX 1200. It was like riding a fast armchair, lovely. In my head I could still do it but I doubt my reactions would be fast enough to be safe.
daveboy
I have one of these....900cc and sticks to the road like poop to a blanket.
amateur
1 hour ago, vmaxphil said: Do you call it "trigger" 😁 No, cos it's still the same frame and registration. I wore out engine 1, a 750cc Enfield, and the thought of rebuilding it, yet again, just depressed me, so I bought a "rebuilt" 920cc PUMA-Weslake, which I had to rebuild to sort out the "builder's" cockups. That was very quick, but vibrated and leaked due to mismatched components, so I bit the bullet and bought a brand new 850cc 8-valve NRE-Weslake from Dave Nourish, which came with a 90° crank. Very quick, little vibration and no leaks.

figgy
Absolutely love being out on my bike, my son also rides we both learned for the roads at the same time a few years ago. Best thing I’ve done in years, wouldn’t have been if I’d passed when younger and dafter. Just being out on the b roads enjoying the freedom and the analogue feel of riding a bike is such a pleasure. as for bikes i prefer naked bikes for the wind in face and more comfy riding position. Also has an adventure bike for a couple of years for commuting and keeping out the weather behind a big visor screen and when I wanted to carry more stuff in top box etc. Though not as fun as a naked sports bike, cruisers are not for me too upright so every bump goes straight up your spine, but each to their own. Only advice is ride as many and sit on as many as you can before buying. Don’t be put off by its to powerful or fast, they only go as quick as you want to go. If you done your full license you done quite a bit of learning and exams on decent sized though gentle bikes, so not a massive jump to buy a bigger bike. My first was a nearly new Yamaha MT09SP, a good all rounder if your too big for a Triumph Street Tripple RS.
