Old farrier
A little but not had any opportunity for a shot there it’s a stalking sport and adrenaline rush even if you don’t get the opportunity to pull the lanyard

Last season was terrible! This season has has been better, but a few times we’ve managed to turn complete disasters into bountiful days! figgy
Enjoyed seeing you use it in anger after following your build thread. Thanks fir some cracking pictures. What's your best bag from a single shot, the old timers could get 40 or more on a very good day.

TIGHTCHOKE
A wonderful thread and great to see an update. Still rather surprised that the Royal Navy haven't been along to claim her!

Having spoken to an extremely well respected punt gunner, I was pleased to learn our best bag is exceptional given the quantity of shot, so at least the setup seems to perform ok! All that aside, getting out there, the thrill of the stalk and keeping a dying tradition alive is what it’s all about for me! theshootist
If 13oz is light, how much could it actually take?!

It can fire 16oz but it gets a bit lively and the pattern is t as good. 12-14oz is nice. an 1 1/2” gun will fire 20oz or thereabouts and a 1 3/4” will fire about 36oz

Not sure about Wildfowlers gun but mine takes 20oz of lead although as we can no longer use it I’m using steel instead (£80 a shot for heavy shot) it’s a bit experimental and I’ve found less is giving a better pattern

Doesn't make much difference what you wear, the punt and your approach should do the work, it's a bit like people saying not to smoke when stalking deer. An old Swedish snow smock I dyed grey. to be honest, it’s not the best in terms of functionality. I just bought a new snowboarding smock off eBay really cheap which is fully wind and water proof which is much better!

Certainly for the price difference I haven’t noticed an appreciable benefit. With the right amount of powder, and after a bit of playing with wads, steel seems to do the trick! Do you totally enclose the steel shot to protect the bore? If so how?
