willks84
As above what's your favourite and most sporting bird to shoot in the uk?
ollie
Favourite bird to shoot is probably Woodcock, I love having the dog out and seeing her work on the Woodock. Also when you are out shooting Woodock there is always a chance of getting a mixed bag. Most sporting bird would probably be the humble Woodpigeon. Decoying would not be the most sporting, but flighting or roost shooting is certainly challenging.
P~MX
favourite without doubt is woodcock -- superb huntin, shootin & eatin, Grouse for me for the most sportin bird, another truly Sporting birds in all senses of the word, much harder to come by than most other wild birds but well worth the reward if you get to shoot a really wild bird hunted up with your own dog. rimfire4969
Pigeon or woodcock never shot at grouse but I expect they would be right up there.
JDog
Late season driven grouse are probably the most difficult followed by very high driven pheasants but not every keen gun has access to them. In the course of a years pigeon shooting in all conditions some of the pigeons I shoot come close to both.

cumbrian top shot
When your stood in a grouse butt in late october early november with a strong wind either coming at you or crossing, the grouse are all packed up and know exactly where the butts are, your stood there waiting for the first coveys to come through hugging the contours of the moor then you see your first birds and before you know it you've either fumbled on which bird to take and there gone or you have waited that split second longer and there past you! then before you know the next covey is coming at you twisting and turning on the wind,to me its the ultimate british sporting bird. Also well up there is the good old woodie they can test even the best of shots on a good day, also as jdog says in his post is those classic high january pheasants. Blackpowder
Had I more experience of the bird I would say grouse, but our god old woodpigeon takes a bit of beating when it comes to testing shooting. Blackpowder

jeffd
Now I would say Grouse, but for me it used to be Curlew with a gail force wind up there behinds comming off the estuary they could change direction like no other bird. Trouble was they did not taste that great. I am showing my age with this post Edited November 23, 2012 by jeffd
