Doc Holliday
I was listening to Radio 4's Saturday live this morning when they asked for anyone to give details of a pointless argument. It reminded me of the comparisons that Mrs H & I have exchanged on the odd occasion. It usually centres around films and, if I like a film, I can watch it several times over. One example is 'Jaws'. Ok, it may be a bit ropey by todays standards but there's no CGI, the story line is pretty good, the acting is pretty good, the cinematography is excellent and the suspense still gets me with the music. Mrs H says 'Oh God! Not this again! How many times have you seen it?" she'll wail. My reply is as above. She replies "But you've seen it so many times! You know what's going to happen... blah! blah! blah!" My response to this is "If that's the case then why do we eat Spaghetti Bolognese every week? We know what it tastes like." Mrs H says it's not the same thing. I say it is, in principle. What say you?

sako751sg
I say, tell your missus to pour you a drink, then get back in the kitchen or bedroom. If its the bedroom, follow her,if the kitchen, leave her to get on with it. However,I do like Jaws.
Gordon R
Doc - totally agree. Jaws - all time classic. I have watched For a few dollars more, High Noon, Scaramouche, Once upon a time in America, Shane, Once upon a time in the West, Star Wars, the Matrix, Last train from Gun Hill, Things to do in Denver when you are dead, True Romance, Pulp Fiction and many more - umpteen times. They seem fresh each time.

shootnfish
Jaws is a great film. The bit that still makes me jump even though i know its coming as i have seen it many times is when Richard Dreyfuss dives under the boat and the head pops out of the hole in the boat. Gordon R
I like the shot as they leave the harbour. The boat is filmed through the jaws of a dead shark - a taste of things to come.

Chris Bb
To paraphrase a well known quotation, "Never argue with your wife, She'll drag you down to her level then beat you with experience." This from a long married man.

Ricko
With regard to Jaws, Robert Shaw (who plays Quint the boat owner) has a pub named after him in Westhoughton, Bolton
Blunderbust
I have to admit that if I see a film that I like, I tend to buy it on DVD and then watch in on numerous occassions. This is especially pertinent when it comes to the old classic comedy type films (the Naked Gun trillogy as an example) watching them over and over again lets you consentrate on what is going on in the back ground and listen for the odd one liner that you missed previously. I never stop laughing at these kind of films.

Missus has never seen it all the way through and thinks its rubbish - And she's welsh !! Same here we always watch it in our house as its so well filmed and acted also its one of the very rare films about a battle the British army fought that's reasonably factual and not bl***y Americas take on their numerous victories throughout history Edited December 28, 2013 by SHOOTEMUP
chrisjpainter
I love Jaws SO much. The real shark filming is amazing - especially the stuff where the shark shakes the cage to bits and gets tangled up in the wires above it. And Jurassic Park - 20 years on and that only feels dated when you see the massive computers in the control room! everything else still feels pin sharp! Doc Holliday
Thanks for the support guys, mostly. Bruno, sorry to say she only likes real men and FWD, yes, everything stops for Emmerdale, which I take to be my cue to slope off to the man cave or down the shed to do man stuff.
