bruno22rf
Bought this gun from Mick back in January for a hefty £34.50 after feeling sorry for the old girl. Spent the last couple of months spare time cleaning decades of rubbish out of her before sending the wood to our very own Maestro demonwolf444 (James). The finished article will not please everybody but the gun should be good for at least another century and is certainly usable. Downside is that my camera skills are nowhere near good enough to truly depict the quality of the wood now that James has run his magical hands over it-I cannot believe how nice the stock has been finished, it feels like glass. James has been an absolute diamond during the restoration-his knowledge regarding guns and their restoration is outstanding when you consider his age and my sincerest thanks are due to him-Top Man. Here's a few pics of before and after.....

FalconFN
What a difference, fantastic job on both stock and action. I'm glad you have another hammer gun - I'm still loving your old Baikal 16 g and can't see myself changing it any time soon.
oliver90owner
Great!. Luv it. Will do the job just as well as a modern gun, but has much more character. People who start with a hammer gun tend to be safer guns with the moderm boxlock hammerless ejector, IMO. Seeing the workings on the outside, and how easy it is to accidentally discharge it, is a slightly sobering experience. Health and safety freaks will likely try to outlaw them within the next century, but I am def a fan.

bruno22rf
Many thanks for all the positive comments-I had expected to be lambasted for polishing the action but it was plain and pitted so I'm glad that I seem to have made the right choice. The vast majority of the restoration was the woodwork and even after 5 weeks since James returned the parts I still pick the gun up just to admire the oil finish. Polishing was a princely sum of £15 and with the original purchase cost and a donation towards Jame's costs the gun came in around the £100 mark. Not sure when I will get to shoot the thing as its black powder proofed only and I have to drive to Glos to pick up some reasonably priced cartridges-it might be cheaper to have her Nitro proofed but with 2 more projects currently underway time is getting a rarer commodity. bruno22rf
Gun now free to collector - one firing pin needs attention and she is still not nitro proofed Milton Keynes area.
