Prince Philip

Years ago I met him when I was doing the Duke of Edinburgh's silver award. He came down to an event when we were setting off on a trek. He came over and was very interested in what we were doing. He spent some time chatting to us about what we were going to do and looking at a map route. Somewhere I still have the pictures of Me showing him what we were going to do. He was very pleasant and showed a genuine interest. He's a bit like Clarkson and tends to say it how it is much like most of us think. Good ol boy. Why should he waste his lifetime for someone to take a picture which will probably go in the bin anyway.

So those of us who have spent time with him are generally positive and most of the vitriol is coming from those who have not. Seems to be a pattern.

In my experience most people over the age of 80 and (more so over the age of 90) say the first thing that comes into their head.

Usually this is done in a stage whisper that they can only just hear but everybody else can hear in a 50m radius.

My mother is in hospital at the moment and yesterday she told me in a load voice what everybody on the ward was in for.

When you get to 94 you can say what you like and poop your pants if you want to unless you are in the public eye.

I just looked at a certain persons post history and it seems As if there is very little if no shooting content at all. on a shooting site, Strange that all they seem to do is start topics about random subjects and then sort of submerge. What do you guys think.>>troll or nutter?

A lot of people Prince Philip's age talk that way. The reason is because they come from a time when semi-professional whiners didn't have the internet to scour every day in order to find something else to be "offended" by.

My dear Flashman-your insults have got me beat good and proper-of course you must be right because hurling naughty words is the retort of the perfect person-but if you ever get a chance to read the history books.......

I can't help but think that you simply don't like a dose of your own medicine.

I still haven't read your explanation for slagging of a veteran's war record, but I guess you're too busy reading Commando War Stories, if you think fighting in the Med during the war was so easy.

Still no answer to my question then Chris?

its well documented phil has had numerous affairs all the way back to his engagement to Liz, the sort of courtesans he would consort with are not the kiss and tell types, just to much smoke its the worse kept secret in Buckingham Palace its swept under the carpet, this is common place 3 of his children have done the same thing and poor old Edward well hes so deep in the closet hes somewhere in Narnia.

So let me get this right - you don't like Prince Philip because he had the audacity to go out with a few ladies before he got wed.

I think that you had better go back to playing snakes and ladders or tiddly winks.

I didn't join a Regiment I joined a Corps ,please try and get your facts right, why don't you look up which fighting arm of the British army has the most VC's ,and also ask your self why the Royal Engineers don't carry any colours.

Sappers ,first into the battle ,and last out.

Don't feed him Welsh ,ignore him.

I recon it takes a lot more bottle to be out there like bait while doing your job at the than a fish that just has a big old mouth. Greatest respect to the engineers

Apologies to welsh1 it was a cheap shot

anyways can we keep on topic and refrain from childish comments

my point regarding Phil is this his views on race are questionable at best and he has a well documented history of marital misdemeanors, the man is married to the Queen he has a duty to perform, he has to be above the standard of your average punter he is a role model, he has over the years fallen short in my opinion, that said who could live to that standard i know i couldn't nor would i want to.

Some of the comments here if aired some time ago would certainly have resulted in the courts issuing the death penalty via be-heading.

What I would find amusing would be the weight of a few of the baskets, I bet they would be pretty light by some of the comments made on here regarding HRH Prince Philip

My darling Flashman- Do take the time to read up on Phils war record and read between the lines-he was destined to marry Liz and unlikely to come to much harm if the powers that be could help it. My opinion of the fool will not be changed by pointless arguing or name calling such as this thread seems to have become-he had the privilege to be sat among true hero's in honour of their service and the sacrifice of those who they represented-the very least he could do was keep his mouth shut. The Royals are no different to anyone else when it regards relationships. They're as human as the rest of us with all that that entails.

Winston Churchills Mother was well known for her string of lovers during society season, and affairs within high society were (and possibly still are for all I know) rife within that section of society. None of this makes it right of course, but it does make them human.

its quite normal for old men to be rude (just look on here) I remember my dad on a train in Hamburg "we went to visit his brothers grave" telling everyone that the last time he was there was to drop bombs, similarly the announcement that he hated Irish tenors at a late night lock -in / ceilidh in the west of Ireland, most people couldnt give a monkeys either way ,

What a load of rot you spout.

I notice you've avoided answering my earlier question, so I'll ask you another.

If HRH was, as you suggest, somehow 'kept out of harms way' and is unworthy of his record and medals, it must then stand to reason that all the other officers and men who served with him were equally cossetted, and as such are just as unworthy of your praise?
