that's the only problem with dogs... they're never here long enough buddy. even more so in your case.

you have my sincere condolences.

just remember though, he may have only been around for a short part of your life, but you were there for all of his. take some solace in the fact that he was loved and cherished for his whole time here and you undoubtedly gave him the best life possible.

Thats why I will probably never have another dog. I would absolutely love to have one but I can't stand the loss. Having been through it in the past, it would feel like the clock was ticking away every day towards the inevetable. They just don't live long enough for me.

Lost my lad just over a year ago now.

Missing him more each day but couldn't face having another for the same reasons as you.

I still look for him in the kitchen every morning and every time I come home from shopping, etc. I keep his photos on my phone and look at them regularly to remind myself of the time we had together.

The unconditional love that they give us is a double-edged sword. They love us and they cut us to the bone. Reading the members comments has brought it all back to me the way that they look straight through you and into your soul. Just being excited to see you and be out with you. Them waiting by the door, the water and food bowls. It’s a real shock to the emotional state to lose one. All of mine have a place in my heart until I follow them on the road. It’s a total swine that they don’t have longer here with us.

So gutted for you, hurts so much to lose a dog, we lost our cocker willow nearly two years ago, at nearly five years old, and it tore us apart.

On the advice of my pal, who's also our vet, we got another pup, lottie, and she helped heal us, as nothing else could have filled the hole our willow left in our lives.

Hope you do take the plunge and house another, not to replace your little mate, as they're irreplaceable, but to give your love somewhere to go.

Sorry to sound like an old hippy, but it's true, you'll see aspects of the old pup in the new one, and whilst it'll hurt a bit, it's far less painful than feeling like they're gone forever.
