racing snake
Hi all, most of my winter time is spent out at night after charlie, but come late spring, when the lambs are big enough to look after themselves I put the guns away and get the fly rods out. A lot of my fishing effort is directed at the fantastic sea trout that run the Welsh rivers, but I also like to spend some of the days targeting wild brown trout, or occasionally some reservoir fishing for rainbows. I try to combine it with another small hobby of mine - photography, and fly tying. A few shots of some fish, scenery and flies Edited March 12, 2017 by racing snake
PeterHenry
Very very nice shots - apart from perhaps the ultra hdr one with the boat, but thats only personal opinion/a pet hate. Nice fish as well.

oowee
Good photo's RS you could be tying flies rather than twiddling thumbs waiting for rain to stop. Your pics are just too good for here.
racing snake
Thanks gents Good photo's RS you could be tying flies rather than twiddling thumbs waiting for rain to stop. Your pics are just too good for here. I did finally make it out Grant, only for the sky to clear and the moon glaring down. Didn't see a thing. pbutd
You have a rare talent(s)...some of the best fishing shots I think I have ever seen & thank you for sharing. Have you ever caught a wild trout on a fly made predom. of fox hair, thus combining your various fieldsports? How do you get such clear shots whilst playing a fish? I don't think I have caught a fish with fox hair that I can remember but hundreds with squirrel tales that I've shot. Bit of a faff with the camera whilst playing a fish I'll admit, a lot of them are me taking shots of my boat partner's fish he's playing, but with some practice you can do your own too. I'm sorry to say it's not anymore technical than firing off a burst when the fish thrashes on the surface and just hope you've got a good one in there somewhere. WinchesterDave
I'm not in to fishing, nor do I know anything about it - but I know a bit about photogprhay and they are absolutely wonderful images. The clarity and sharpness is second to non. I love the HDR images myself. What do you use to process? And what kit are you using bud out of interest Thanks for posting, Dave

racing snake
Thanks for all the comments everyone. Just trying to work out where the hell that image of the back end of a VW Golf came from (I've edited it out now), wasn't in there last night and I've never taken that shot. Bizarre! Did anyone else see it? I'm not in to fishing, nor do I know anything about it - but I know a bit about photogprhay and they are absolutely wonderful images. The clarity and sharpness is second to non. I love the HDR images myself. What do you use to process? And what kit are you using bud out of interest Thanks for posting,Dave Hi Dave, kit-wise I use a D300 body, a Sigma 10-20mm for landscapes, a 105mm Nikon f2.8 for the fly shots (and some of the fish ones), and a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for the more rangy stuff. Processing the HDR was in Photomatix, I used a 9 shot bracket. The result still needed some work after with CS6. I generally prefer to use Lightroom for more basic levels and curves work. The fly shots are a happy coincidence - my remit for them was for a white background, fortunately this forum also displays on a white background so the frame-less style is maintained. They're a bit of a faff to do, not so much the fly itself but ensuring you end up with pure white background and a correctly exposed fly. Absolute nightmare for a fly that has white in it!
