Out for Five Hours

Recommended Posts

While I was attending to the horse on Thursday morning I received a plea from one of my farmers to come and shoot some crows on his seeded oats. So when I returned home I suggested to the Wife that she invite the her work girlfriends over for afternoon tea and not one to listen to gossip and the latest diet the wife, bless her said why dont you go shooting ???

I'd already removed ten crows from the freezer and it did not take me long to pack the gear and drive to the affected field which had been direct drilled and was like baked clay with all the seed on the surface. This field had been a sheep turnips before and they had trodden a hard crust on to the surface. So much so that I drove the Disco over to a tree in the field without leaving a single tyre track. It was forcast to rain so I set up the brolly and covered it in hide. the wind was strong from my back and I set the ten decoys to the rear of the hide at the lefthand edge. The theory being that they would fly looking at the decoys and not directly at my hide. The first bird back did not want to come close but a jackdaw came straight at the tree, bang , first bird down. My recent corvids shoots have taught me to put the decoys out further than I would with pigeons so I paced out forty steps in front of the hide and place it as a marker. I had set up at 13.00 and finished at 18.00 and during that period I had some cracking shots at distance and some through the tree boughs that I know I hit and they folded midway out in the field. Some of the branches had a perfect round pattern of shot on them , an obvious miss. I ended up picking up One hundred and twentythree corvids which was a great break from my recent duties. I also forgot my camera so it was just a phone shot and no celebrity pose!!

How do you get them all to sleep in such neat rows?

Au contraire, I feel that his presentation skills have deserted him after his lay off.

Great result! Saved a lot of song bird chicks and eggs there!Like I've said. Corvid controller has a ring to it!

Well done PC. Great result.

I love decoying corvids. Something very satisfying about it.

They're tough old *******, even with 32g 6's. We've had a few look dead in the air, only to recover and carry on another half a field and then drop out of the sky.

Keep up the good work.
