certificate price rip off

Recommended Posts

Depends on the way you look at it... prices were suppressed without increase for years, causing it to not cover costs. Increase supposed to be based on cost of issue and the licensing processes including back office costs. Online systems cost money to maintain and instigate, but may save time and some money. Doubt the cost will come down though, those efficiencies just cover the ever increasing costs to public sector (increasing wages, increasing office costs etc).

£65 for a coterminous renewal for 5 years? I don't think 25p a week is over the top, no.

Agreed, this covers my 6 shotguns and 5 rifles, bargain as far as I'm concerned.

4p per gun per week. I'm ok with that.

Hi dose anyone else agree we are being ripped off as the price hike on shotgun and firearms certificate's was supposed to be to cover the cost of staff and admin but now its all going online surely the cost should go back down

Is it online? Last time I renewed all you could do was download a pdf of the form.. honestly I think it's good value the firearm depts have a hard job with poor resources.

The price I paid was as expected: The expression "rip off" where I come from is when the price or item supplied was misrepresented.

Despite it being a government organisation that's typically cumbersome and often slow, I think we get value for money and feel the online aspect would not bring about much in the way of cost savings but being online would hopefully enable proof that notifications were sent.

sorry i did not mean the cost was too high its the fact the people are losing jobs and the work load is passed on to police that have their hands full as it is plus not everyone uses computers so a total online service is and would be unfair

A totally different issue but one I entirely agree with. Police resources are ridiculously low as is investment. They do as good a job as they can in my view, my local force TVP are slow but couldn't be more helpful if you contact them.

Its cheap,my fishing licence is £30 a year (£150 for 5yrs) so your getting a good deal.If I want to dip more than 2 rods I have to pay £60 a year.So on the grand scale of things your getting off lightly lol.

Ah, but you're talking about a license which permits you to actually physically fish, unlike firearms you don't need a costly certificate to own a rod.

Yes but it's pointless owning a rod if you don't have a licence as you can't even fish private waters without one.
