Just how much longer will the BBC and ITV keep trotting out the pointless coverage?

What sort of an answer is that?

So we must all comply and pay homage to the monarchy or be silent?

You do realise it's 2022 and not 1822 don't you?

Or get a streaming service. Or watch documentaries. I'm currently watching a bat geo documentary.

there are loads of channels so unsure why the fuss about BBC / itv.  I'm also about to boot up and go foxing. So unsure what the issue to many is.

Just because it's on 24hrs a day doesn't mean you have watch it continuously. Some people work shifts and don't get to watch during peak viewing hours. I think you will also find that the Queen is not described as they.

1. You 'literally' quoted me saying I hadn't watched a minute.

2. Shift workers, like the rest of the population, are capable of using a streaming service.  Broadcast television, with its schedules, is effectively dead for those below the age of 30.

3. I did not refer to the queen as 'they', rather the subject of the sentence, viz. "those who can’t do without 24h rolling news coverage".

I'm just trying to say we need some balance for those of us not affected.

This.

Depends on what kit you have, but I find these days that if I want background music whilst I work, Spotify played on a cheapo smart speaker (Echo Dot £15ish in sale) works.  I'm too tight to pay for the paid-for version of Spotify, but even the ads I find grate less than radio ones.  No inane DJ chatter too, whether about the Queen or not.

Now then all the anti royals out there who have said bad things over the past couple of days don't forget to tell your boss you don't want the day off for the state funeral and you will go to work on the royal Bank holiday

Bad things?  I'm not particularly republican, but the attitude of some people on here and in real life is enough turn one to that side.  She was 96, she wasn't your gran.  What on earth are people expecting?  Yes she's been in a constant in my life as most peoples'.  But come on; it's all getting seriously mawkish.

As an aside, I lived abroad when Diana died.  The perception of the UK was that we all collectively lost our minds over an ex-princess/media manipulator's untimely demise.  It was a tragedy for her children and immediate family, not the nation.

As for working?  Self employed contractor working for an international company.  Yep, I'll be at work.

Interesting article in the Telegraph (paywall), covering just this subject, talking about the BBC's nonsensical wall-to-wall coverage, when George VI died:

Quote

You’d imagine that 1950s Britain would embrace such deprivation with cold-bath stoicism. They did not. One survey found that 59 per cent of Britons disapproved of the BBC’s coverage.

This had consequences. The Tory Party swung in favour of ending the corporation’s monopoly, permitting the creation of commercial TV. Labour MP Richard Crossman blamed this on its “high-handed performance during the King’s funeral … if there had been a rival, the BBC couldn’t have closed the service down.”

Middle-class do-gooders argued that the BBC existed precisely to uphold sober standards; working-class viewers demanded more game shows; the Tories were sick of the bias. “For 11 years [the BBC] kept me off the air,” claimed Churchill. “Their behaviour has been tyrannical. They are honeycombed with socialists – probably communists.”

See, even the culture war is nothing new.

A) I don't understand your point.

A) So why not use one instead of crying on here?

A) I just find it fascinating how repeatedly wrong they get it, it’s almost like some are deliberately steering the ship towards the iceberg.

So who are you referreing too?

Nothing has changed then!

Fair enough, but if you extend that logic....Do you dance round a maypole?  Are you, indeed, a practicing Christian?  Do you, er, like August? 😂

Would appear so!  Wasn't around myself, but would appear some of PW were so I'm sure they'll be along to comment shortly.

Eh?  I said I hadn’t watched any of the coverage, you then quoted the exact same sentence back at me, then asked me why I was watching it?  Then, when I pointed out that apparent contradiction, you ask me what my point is?  You raised this, what was your point?

Again, read my post.  I do use one.  I haven't watched broadcast Television for approximately 5 years.  I originally posted on this thread words to the effect of how, IMO both the monarchy and the BBC will cease to exist, at least in the form they are now, following the passing of the queen.

So to recap, you quote me on one part of the post, correct me (falsely) on my grammar, and when I point that out to you, you quote a completely different part of the post?  The ‘they’ you're asking about now is referring to the BBC.

You could I suppose, make an argument for the monarchy steering their metaphorical ship towards the iceberg, but I would suggest that would be the Meghans and Prince Andrews of his world at the helm, rather than the queen...

I didn't say you had watched it I pointed out you didn't have to watch it and could view an alternative.

That was the inference I took and was not trying to correct your grammar.

Well I'm anti Royal but I haven't said anything bad.

I don't want it off. Unfortunately I'll have no staff or customers in.

All our workshop bookings for that day will have to be squeezed in around the rest of the weeks work, so we'll all be staying late on other days...Great.

I'm salaried so that's all unpaid overtime for me.

Why not have it on Sunday? Far less disruption.
