triumphant59
I’m going to invest in a pair of prescription shooting glasses for game shooting primarily. My deliberation is which tint to go for as a best all round. The options I have are yellow ( think they’re good for dull days but maybe not bright) orange or rose (vermilion) What do others use? GingerCat
Any tinted glass that keeps the sun off. Never had an issue. I tend to use glasses that change colour in the summer.
Andy H
Personally yellow has helped enhance the scene fore me.
Robden
Think you'll have to suck it and see. Everyone's eyes are different. My friend can't see out of my glasses, he says that they're too dark, and I find his are too light, plus a strange colour.
Charliedog
If you want an all round pair then I would suggest reactolite lenses, covers all variables for game shooting
TIGHTCHOKE
A yellow pair would be good for the autumn, but a dark pair is useful if your peg faces the sun!
Diver One
I onLy shoot/miss clays. a couple of weeks ago I forgot to put my glasses on ( need for driving and have used for shooting for 6 years. New prescription when required) and shot my best round ever! So I got some multi lens specs off amazon as I need some eye protection. Vermillion seems the best and I am shooting even better with them. Apparently my diabetes and cancer treatment can have an effect on eyesight

Dave at kelton
I bought a pair of brown optilabs prescription glasses for fishing 20+ years ago and still going strong. I also have a pair of dark grey from glasses direct that I bought for general use. I use whichever is to hand for shooting but don’t do clays seriously. Yellow does enhance everything but if it’s bright won’t help in my experience. It is a matter of personal choice so perhaps start with some cheap safety glasses in various colours to decide what suits best and then spend your hard earned on your preferred tint in prescription lenses. Fellside
Light brown. I have used this colour in fishing and shooting for years. Seems to cover most eventualities. No one colour will be ideal for everything. You’ll end up with a ‘best compromise’. There you are - my two penneth for what it’s worth. samboy
I use purple for all my clay shooting summer and winter. I don't wear glasses at all when i'm rabbiting with my rimfire.
discobob
light purple during winter/cloudy days - Cherry Red when the sun is out....

Fellside
To clarify, my two penneth above relates to game shooting together with field sports generally. I use the same colour lenses for all. The best advice I can give however, whatever glasses are chosen, is don’t leave them on top of your head. They feel like they’re still present after they fall off. You put your hand up there to re-engage the specs….. and….. gone! How many times have I done that? I’m not telling… 🙂

Somebody once explained why the brown tint gives a sharper definition. I have long since forgotten the science - but took on board the point. triumphant59
Thanks for all the comments guys. I was hoping for a common thread but unfortunately not! I think I’m going for vermillion, (Rose) I’ve tried some lenses from Optilabs and it reduces brightness on a bright day but sharpens contrast on a dull day which is what I’m after suffering with slight cataracts. 🤞 For anyone looking for prescription shooting specs I’d thoroughly recommend Optilabs, they’ll send up to 4 pairs of frames to try and various lenses foc they even include return postage! Westley
Because lens colour is a personal preference, I shall let you make that choice. I do not use glasses for game shooting unless i am looking at the sun and then I use a pair of sunglasses by Napier, they cost around £20 and for looking into the sun they are excellent. All I would add is, whichever glasses you choose, do ensure you are looking through the middle of the lens when your head is on the gunstock and the frames do NOT obscure your view. ehb102
Totally personal. Borrow some filters and test. I like polarised brown in all conditions, even in near dark. Yellow never brought me any benefit although the right shade of purple helped my reaction time for orange clays. For anyone struggling, Ed Lyons www.edlyons.co.uk is the best at finding colours for shooting.
Sweet11-87
my shooting glasses have detachable lenses with about 3 or 4 different colours to suit conditions but also have a set of inner frames that clip in just behind the nose piece to add perscription lenses so you can have them all really if you get a decent set just googled it, its called a myopia frame insert
