Irac: Legal age of female MARRIAGE AND CONSENT to 9!

Irac parliament today proposed drafting into law dropping the legal age of female marriage and consent to 9!

And that ladies and gents is the sort of culture that offends us so much in this country: together with forced wearing of headgear and more, FGM, education denial and general disrespect of females, and all who don't have the same beliefs. Yet they want to bring those awful customs here.

I don't give a fig about their colour or race, its their disgusting morals and culture that will never be acceptable to me. I guess some will say I'm on the far right for that stance but its what offends many of us the most.

Not disbelieving you, but do you have a link to this. I'm very careful not to fall for fake news and this sounds ridiculous.

Thanks for the link TIGHTCHOKE, I'm flabbergasted. Got to be honest, I thought it was going to be fake news, what type of society thinks it's okay for a 9yo to be married. I'm glad to see there are moderate people out there who are protesting against it.

Dave g has a point in as much as if we allow uncontrolled immigration, although I've no doubt there are many decent and reasonable individuals in places like Iraq and elsewhere, the UK will also have individuals turn up who have no respect for women, think it's right for a 9yo to be married and be intolerant of anyone to the point of violence, if they don't share their warped ideology. In short the UK has enough of its own problems, without importing more.

As far as I’m aware there’s nothing in that holy book that relates directly to child marriages but the teachings of a rather prominent character in that culture is understood to have married Aisha when she was six and “consummated” when she was 9 (lunar rather than calendar years, as if that’s some consolation).

That’s the problem with applying culture and ideology which maps more closely to the first testament. No place for anything like that in our society.

Whilst I think it is a total and utter disgrace, it's their country not ours. They might think we are too soft on rioters, thieves, rapists etc.

They do......and we are  !

It's already happened  !  I believe some are already in prison here for 'trafficking ' young women and girls   ?

It's like I've said before, all this left right nonsense needs to stop. People need to be honest about issues on both sides, stop both the denial and the over exaggeration of issues and if that can happen, maybe we can get a well rounded working society.

At the bottom of it all though, we all need to remember our humanity and that people are people, no matter where they come from. We all have the possibility of doing good as well as bad.

I used to think like that, but after over 50 years of dealing with 'people', I'm afraid I lost my rose tinted Pilla's  !

Not sure that makes it ok, just because it’s ‘their’ country?

I never said it was okay. I don't agree with the laws in a few countries, but it doesn't matter what we think, they have the right to make their own laws. Age of consent in USA varies from state to state.

Other countries make their laws and enforce them - we don't.

I was going to say, it will just bring them in line with their Book.

And this is one of the many serious problems with mass uncontrolled migration. When we're allowing any Tom, ****, or Harry to turn up in the UK from countrys like Iraq or even less westernised places, we are going to have a number of people arrive with all sorts of warped views that they will continue to hold and act upon while living here.
