I bought a mint Beretta A 302 for around £300 a few years ago. Used it quite a bit and it hasn't jammed with anything. No problems at all with it! :)

Unfortunately my cousin bought a Remington 1100 from a person I found who was selling one. He only used it a few times over several months due to work, and by then the warranty had ran out. He's since used it twice in the last few weeks, and it broke both times for different reasons. It fires the first cartridge no problem, but fails to load the next cartridge. He hates it now. I feel bad as I put him on to the person who he bought it from. With hindsight I should have got him to buy another A302 that was a little more expensive. You live and learn..... :unhappy:

There are any number of reasons your buddy is having an issue, weak mag spring, worn shell latch, worn carrier release or carrier dog spring, dirty lifter mech. Or internally rusty mag tube. Any semi auto can develop one or all of these faults over time, considering the first 1100 rolled off the line in 1963 until 1987. Over 4 million guns produced to become the best selling auto in the world to date. And recently re-launched. Considering your mans gun could be between 20-50yrs old, fired who knows how many thousands of rounds, parts will have worn and springs weaken. How many services has it had in its lifetime? Poor maintenance and lack of proper care will cause ANY gun or other mechanical equipment to fail eventually. Nothing wrong with Remington 1100 semi autos....I have had 4 perfectly reliable 1100's, still have 2.

So you did nothing wrong recommending the gun, and with the proliferation of spares cheaply available, a quick and easy remedy or repair by any decent gunsmith will have your mate back out shooting with a coke and a smile.

I've got an 1100 as my only shotgun, 1967 vintage and an old skeet school gun so its had a fair few carts through her. I've had one issue with her being a cerclip came off but took no time to order a replacement and get her running again. Apart from that I've put many more 1000's of carts though it no problem and to be fair with the life the guns had I'd expect more worn out parts but shes got many more years in her yet.

I shoot alot with my brother, he proudly bought a Beretta Outlander... which has out jammed the 1100 10 fold ;)

26" Benelli Super Black Eagle. Old when I purchased it. Older now and well used.

Patternmaster chokes for fowling. Normal five chokes that came with it for pigeons and other vermin jobs.

It looks battered and bruised - The barrels are getting shiny.

It has never let me down and I love it to bits.

I wish it was in camo.

Benelli bits now SOLD. Grandalf, you can now get the metal parts coated, I can't remember what its called, but I read of someone doing it with an air rifle, it involves someone basically putting on a liquid wrap, not too expensive either. I will try and find out the proper details for you.

Having had an on-going shoulder issue, I've been advised to do all I can to minimize recoil. Many people have said get a semi auto, always been an O/U.

Wasn't sure, until last Saturday when my local dealer gave me an A400 Sporter and a box of 24g shells, I think I maybe about to convert :-)

The post's an here have made a great read :good:

l would appreciate that Harry136. It is well past the time that I should give the old girl some TLC.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I'm a little late to this party but I'm now fully signed up to the semi auto club having brought home a Beretta A300 Outlander today.

I was certain I'd end up getting an SX3 based on reviews but after shouldering them both there was no contest, the Outlander just felt perfect. Can't wait to try her out.

I have a black composite maxus. Can anyone tell me how to get an age code from the serial number - it doesn't seem to follow the Japanese convention.

I have previously owned Fabarm Euro 3, Beretta extrema and Browning gold fusion.

I really like the maxus and really like the auto load feature but wish it came with a quarter choke. Half will do though.

Have been pondering whether to change my Benelli Black Eagle for some other fowling piece. This pondering has been going on for about three years. I'm not a guy who rushes into things.

However, because it is light, only 26" barrels, and it now shoots well with Patternmaster chokes for geese and high ducks, I have decided to stay with the devil I know. It has never let me down, even when I dropped it out of my boat into the mud! So yesterday I took it into Riflecraft to be camouflaged. Something needed doing because it now shines in the sunlight when out on the marsh or in a pigeon hide. Cerakote - £225. I'll put a picture on when I get it back. 2 - 3 weeks they say.
