hawkeye
Just had to say goodbye to my best shooting mate he had to be put to sleep this morning and only just gone 8 years old.. Was at the vets this morning and there is nothing else they could do he had a problem he caught E-Coli and has been on tablets to sort the infection out, he collapsed in the vets last week and his heart started fibrillating he has been slowly going down hill since last November. He has had no quality of life this last couple of months when we went for a walk he was like a old man plodding along with his head down.. He has lost a lot of weight and has not been eating for the last few days i think he had given up... Goodbye Marco you will be missed by a lot of mates and the grandkids... pigeon controller
Sorry for your loss but in time you will realise it was the best decision , I see some dogs who struggle to keep up and only do it out of loyalty. Just remember the good days.

hawkeye
Very sad news, I feel for you. Do you know how it was contracted? Thanks for the kind words lads ... rimfire he went into kennels last october for 3 days over Halloween while i went down to London to see the grandkids... The kennels he was in is really well run the place is spotless so i am not blaming them in any way.. He started to go down hill with his breathing within a couple of days ( muzzle started to swell up ) he was referred to a specialist vet by mine. And i asked how he could have caught it when they found out it was E - Coli but the vet said he could have just sniffed a blade of grass that another dog or fox had peed on or even sniffed at dog or fox **** it is as easy as that. Im only glad i don't have to tell the grandkids one is 6 and the other 2 and they both doted on him when they come up from London my son and daughter in law have that job... silver pigeon 3
Sorry for your loss buddy, losing a pet dog is hard enough but to loose a working dog is horrendous. We ask so much of them and they give it all and more without ever questioning us.
markbjones01
words cant describe how your feeling right now, suffice to say those that live and work with dogs know what your loss means to you, time is a healer and cherish all those fond memories

blasterjudd
Awful story so sorry to hear about your loss Mike, he looked a lovely dog. Strange as it may seem a friend of mines Lab contracted this at the weekend and has been on a drip since, he was last night given some better news that he should be ok now as the dog is very young and apparently its more commonly a killer for the older dog. I had not heard much about this problem until my friend spoke to me about it at the weekend but now your dog as well am so sorry. Apparently theres been 3 cases recorded in Essex this month! BRNDL
I feel for you and your family. Sometimes I think about the day when my Labrador will pass and how hard it will be. She is only 16 months now but were so attached. 8 years of age is tragic. All the best, BRNDL
