digger
I was cutting up RSJs with a 110v grinder with a metal disc, had all the ppe inc goggles.as the steels were twisting on the final 60 mm of cut I lifted my goggles. Big mistake. Spark into the eye which cauterised on its way in. The op to remove it was gruesome, head clamped into a cage, eye lids held apart and needle used to dig it out. Huge bleed in the eye and unable to see for four hours. Dont take risks chaps

sitsinhedges
I had a steel splinter from an angle grinder removed from my eye with a Dremel using a carbide burr by the eye dept a few months ago. I was laughing my head off at the absurdity of it but it worked a treat.

figgy
Think most of us who use these tools have done the same. I did it years ago, a small burr came off and stuck in my eye, thought it had come out and was just sore till got home and looked in the mirror. Tried to pull it out my eyeball with tweezers but they kept slipping off, wife was balking and telling me to go to the eye hospital used the eye of a sewing needle to grip it and remove it. Worked out fine luckily. Worst I had was greenheart splinters from sawdust blow into my eyes. Bloody spelks stuck inside my eyelids scratching my eyes every time I moved my eyes or blinked, hard not to. That was a trip to A&E eyes numbed dye in and inside of lids turned out and spelks picked out. Was worse than a sodding welding flash. The saying you only have one pair look after them rings true when you nearly loose them. Figgy
welshwarrior
Sounds sore hope you get better soon, PPE is important was reminded of that score on Saturday when a piece of clay hit me right on the cheek bone, luckily it was the flat side and just bruised me. kent
been there and it gets a far worse thing if you leave them in a day or two. I tend to wear a clear visor these days as I have and an odd one find their way past specs
Sha Bu Le
Had a similar incident some time ago, was wearing safety glasses but not the full ones that enclose the eyes. Tiny bit of swarf got under the glasses and into my eye. Was removed without problems at the eye infirmary. Rarely use a grinder but now when I do its the full goggles. Hope you mend soon and no lasting affects. ATB Bri
robbiep
And I set my trousers on fire with one. That was funny afterwards, once I'd stopped beating my own leg out I've done that with a petrol disc dutter. Was wearing a 'good' pair of jeans at the time, I think I needed the PPE more for when SWMBO saw them !
keg
I spent a week in hospital aged 11 having a bamboo splinter removed from my iris, the other three bits had been removed in the eye clinic!

flynny
Hope you have a speedy recovery mate, I get our lads to wear a full face visor with leather hood and leather gloves fit for purpose-when using the whizzers, goggles steam up and are a right pain in the rear. A full face visor protects your full face, Have you ever seen a grinder blade shatter? Like a shrapnel bomb!!!! It only take 1 time to loose an eye or other appendage, It ain't worth it, Atb Flynny

Lord Geordie
Had a lucky escape a few year back when the cutting disk exploded. Instinct saved me because like a moron I wasn't wearing goggles! I flinched and closed my eyes as it exploded and ended up with cuts all over my arm and face! Then working under the car a month or so ago, goggles kept slipping off so I cast them to one side! As I lifted the towbar into place a big flake of rust fell into my eye! I managed to get it out with a wet cotton bud luckily. Hope your better soon.
