pavman
I am fast coming to the opinion that Face Veils are made by folk who know nothing about shooting, comfort and the fact it rains from time to time......... about time I tried Duck Commander style face paint I think! kent
Peaked cap under my hood and don't look up till your mounting the gun works best for me They either blow over your eyes or change the cast off required and the feel of s good mount. To my mind at least. As effective as they might be for other shooting not for me so much fowling Peaked cap under my hood and don't look up till your mounting the gun works best for me They either blow over your eyes or change the cast off required and the feel of s good mount. My problem with them is that my glasses steam up where my breath come through the eye bit! I've thought about using a bit of camo, but get the feeling my dogs would look at me like a bit of a tit. Penelope
Use one quite a lot for fowling, particularly when it's too warm for the woolly 'at, it hides the shiny bonce.
humperdingle
I used to wear a simple home made camo blind bandana, set just below the eyes, and a hat to cover the bonce.
fenboy
I generally wear one when wildfowling or pigeon shooting.

rjimmer
Got my first head net from Cogswell and Harrison's shop in about 1964, hides a shiny face on the foreshore, but un-gloved hands do almost as much scaring. I usually wear a 3-hole woolen balaclava nowadays.

sitsinhedges
Only use a face mask for roost shooting. Not needed for decoying if you keep still behind a net with a decent cap on.
Tomo-1
I have tried with and without over the years. In my very humble opinion it's the movement that spooks the birds. I keep totally still until the last possible moment.
GingerCat
Keeping still works for me. Tried the odd veil and it made no difference but movement makes all the difference it seems

motty
I usually wear some kind of face mask for most of my shooting. I wear thinsulate balaclavas or some other type of headwear that keeps the head warm and the face camouflaged for wildfowling purposes. This may not be necessary, but it certainly does no harm. marsh man
I have never used a mask , although how ugly I am it might improve my looks , weather it improve my shooting , that I will never know. In the Summer I spend that much time looking behind a net, that by the time the season roll round my face look Brown where the sun has caught it and White patches where the net has got in the way , although last year I used one of these modern see through nets and the sun tan on my face looked as if it had been covered in fine mesh
GADWALL41
I never used to wear a mask in the old days , just the peak cap and stay still method. However the peak gets in the way of my head cam , side mounted so I wear a face cover now . I use a Mossy oak Duck blind camo Buff, serves as a great neck warmer , rain catcher etc. It can be pulled right up and yes you can use a call while wearing it . 2 types , one cotton top and bottom and 2 , cotton and Fleece . I don't leave home without it . As was mentioned , Hands and movement , I wear one glove , left hand on forend , keep Still as we all know is the main thing . Quack , Quack! malkiserow
I use a merino wool buff ...... mostly as a neck warmer and if needed you loop it over as a very good face cover ...... BUFF see the full mask version at about 47 seconds Also has the advantage that you don't look like a twal

anser2
As I stated at the start of this post I hate to wear a face mask , and there is little need for them in the poor light levels of dawn or dusk or on a gloomy day , but your face will shine out like a beacon if you are facing a bright sunrise or sunset. I have only started to wear them after one bright sunrise shooting on a Broad in Norfolk. There were 4 other boats out all covered with hides , but though the boats were hard to spot I could clearly see the pale faces of the fowlers in 3 of the boats from over 400 yards off. The fowlers in the 4th boat were wearing face masks and were invisable behind their hide. I often shoot in a huge creek facing the sunrise where there is very little hiding indeed I often stand at the bottom of the 10 feet high creek wall , just crouching in the jumble of turf and big mud boulders at the base of the creek bank and find when using a face mask the duck rarely pick me up , but they usually do without a mask on sunny mornings. The duck often fly up the creek at head height ( below the level of the bank ) taking you by surprise as they come around a bend in the creek 100 yards off. They pick up movement very quickly , but with a face mask the just do not see you as long as you are still. However in poor light face masks are a liability as they reduce your vision when you need it most .
