oowee
Inspired by some of the talk of knives and the winnie&bezza suggestion about a knife thread I thought I would kick one off. Here is my total rather pitiful collection. I started with the Opinel but it kept getting clogged up with bird detritus so moved onto the open folder its easier to clean. For me they are tools that I use most days have a good chance of being lost (although to date i haven't). They have to be easy to lock to save my fingers which the Opinel complete with bird detritus definitely isn't. mick miller
To date I have never found, or seen any hand-made, folding knife that is better at paunching a rabbit or dressing a muntjac than a cheapo folding opinel. I've even managed to completely field dress a fallow with mine, guts out, legs and head off with only the sagen saw making a guest appearance for the chest. Flipping fantastic knives. (and we all know what they look like). Edited April 7, 2016 by mick miller
UKPoacher
i have 3 knives only........i dont collect them each has a use.. hunting knife landrover knife pocket knife The Land Rover knife; Is that to scrape oil off the drive? The best knife I had for paunching rabbits and breasting pigeons was a folding ceramic bladed knife that managed to get through the import controls. The subsequent one I ordered got stopped because if you were Jackie Chan you could flick it open (I tried and couldn't). ********! These days I use an Opinel. I've also got a Leatherman multi-tool but the blade is only fit for spreading butter. It won't hold an edge.
ditchman
my leatherman is over 30 years old i bought it in the states...it has hollow ground blades which hold an edge very well.......i suspect the leathermans now might not be as good.. i have also somewhere a very old opinel which i bought in france when i was a young lad picking grapes.....the steel blade is very hard... much harder than the newer ones .....but it does rust more easily... Dunkield
I have about a dozen knives, I carry most in my bag in the car and two with me when stalking. One is used for flesh, a mid priced Gerber, and one for head legs and even cheaper Buck I did make a super slim damascus fixed blade for muntjac and used it once just for the hell of it, but next out went back to plan A Still like making them and owning though. I too have an original Leatherman bought in the USA years ago. Really sharp and holds a good edge, not like the modern day stuff!
happypig
I have found with the opinel if you coat the blade with lemon juice it will pre stain the blade... Once dried then there is no rust issues although the blade is now blackened
jonny thomas
I've got a leatherman also from the states about 5or6 years old really sharp and holds an edge well can't fault it Lives in my glove box

Danger-Mouse
Not really a collection as such but from top to bottom . . . "Villager" Kukri Gerber lock knife - probably the most used of the bunch. A handy little knife that holds a decent edge and breasts out pigeons rather nicely. Anglo Arms Hunting Knife. Anglo Arms Tactical Sheath Knife. I`m quite impressed with the AA knives, they`re cheap but take a decent edge and they`re solidly built. Danger-Mouse
The villager looks good for some serious crop damage Indeed. It`s not particularly sharp but I certainly wouldn`t want to be hit by it. It`s a very weighty blade and even in it`s current state would definitely do some damage. oowee
This guy? http://www.esquire.co.uk/style/news/a8217/handmade-knives-sheffield/ Looks like he died Trevor Ablett and his handmade pocket and folding knives in his workshop in Sheffield, England. Trevor Ablett has now sadly died and this is the last of his traditional Sheffield made pocket knives
Mentalmac
I have one of those Gerbers and a Opinel - the Opinel I find easier for rabbits and the Gerber for anything else.
FalconFN
I have 3 opinels spread around the place (I prefer a #7 carbon), a couple of work-horse locking SS knives for diy etc and a nice fieldcrafter knife that I made the handle and sheath for. I've also got an old leatherman, a Gerber and a smattering of victorinox swiss army knives, the youngest being about 20 years old. The opinels get most use.
