iano
This is something that has been confusing me for the last while. I guess it crystallised in the EU referendum. I love the Welsh, great fun when over for the rugby. Great fun in general when over at weddings or just visiting. Cardiff is fantastic, as are the mountains. When you talk to them (as an Irish person at least), they are clearly Welsh and identify as such. Yet you don't hear much about an 'Independent Wales'. They seem very comfortable in their Britishness, although I've never heard them identify as such. They also seem fairly quiet on the NI / Scotish questions. Are they the 'perfect' model for GB? Or is it something else?

12gauge82
To be honest Wales could not survive as a independent country, we're too small and we have far too much unemployment, I also don't think it's something that the majority of welsh people want although plaid has picked up alot of support lately

fortune
And a dash of je ne sais quoi. Foreign language? just cos you voted in. Wales is nice. A bit wet though. There's talk about the boys coming back up for a few days. Load up with lead on route in Cwmbran, do a bit of off roading, have a few beers. A bit of a drive round and to visit the mid wales shooting ground again. I really enjoyed myself there.

Duckandswing
I've lived in Wales eleven years now and still enjoy it. Got lovely beaches, mountains and nicely compact cities all within half hour of me. Its a little bit of variety which makes it interesting. The Welsh are hugely proud of their heritage, and rightly so.

four-wheel-drive
I tend to think that the Scots seem to blame the English for all of the bad stuff that has happened but if you look into our history with everything from the slave trade to lost of other bad things that we got up to they were in it up to there eyeballs. As for the Welsh they are very proud of being Welsh but mostly see the benefit of being British so apart from a few extremist we get along together fine. The problem is NI I think that most English people would like it if they could combine with the Irish makes more sense as it is a small island but that is up to them. Then we get to the Isle of Man not much more than a tax con to save people from paying proper uk tax like the rest of us do. Bit like the Brits with the EU. As for the Welsh they are very proud of being Welsh but mostly see the benefit of being British so apart from a few extremist we get along together fine. I think that's true of all the nation states. Banter yes, competitive yes but underneath respect for each other. The problem is NI I think that most English people would like it if they could combine with the Irish makes more sense as it is a small island but that is up to them. Not me the UK is already too small lets not start breaking it up. Then we get to the Isle of Man not much more than a tax con to save people from paying proper uk tax like the rest of us do. Maybe not so much as the Channel Islands but keep them all anyway I say.
