TIGHTCHOKE
Well of course it is August, the "Silly Season", not much news about which allows these non stories to rise to the top! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/08/13/cats-eyes-extinct-council-adopts-road-studs-tourists-read-signs/

Red-dot
Cats eyes were invented by a chap walking through a wood at night and the cats eyes reflected his torch beam but if the cat had been walking away im reckoning he would have invented the pencil sharpener instead? Walker570
Political correctness gone made. The person/s who thought this one up are paid public employees, probably even voted for councillors. Amazes me sometimes who people will vote in to run our country. Never let the truth - or Ken Dodd for that matter - get in the way of a good story.

Grandalf
Lived in Wokingham in Berkshire according to the locals - Probably wrong. Suffolk County Council have changed the road signs to say 'Caution - Studs Removed'. Never clear what I should do when I read that sign. Modern boots don't have studs. JohnfromUK
According to Wikipedia and other 'on-line' sources such as obituaries - he lived all his life in the house he moved to when his parents bought it when he was a child of 2 - near Halifax. He was something of an eccentric - having no carpets and curtains despite being very wealthy - and driving a Rolls Royce Phantom. He kept 3 televisions permanently switched on, one on each channel (there were only 3 channels then) and another as a spare! With a lifestyle like that - it had to be either Norfolk or Yorkshire! amateur
He was English and came from Halifax (where he lived all his life), name Percy Shaw. Correct, and he got the idea from driving home one foggy night and following tram-lines which were reflecting in his headlights. I seem to recollect that he told that story on a Parkinson show. ...and he never closed his curtains at night

Harnser
I was driving my American cousin from Heathrow to Norwich . We came across some road works and a sign saying caution cats eyes removed . My cousin said why have they removed the cats eyes . ? I told her that it stopped the cats killing song birds . She said and I thought that you English were animal lovers . Harnser
figgy
Don't see many of the old cats eyes, there all the reflective strips now in different courts for lanes and exits. Look like bike pedal reflectors.
