villaman
I will be buying both Cals this week , I have thought about tikka 17 HMR and CZ 457 royal . what are your thoughts on my choices of guns ?

steve_b_wales
Both excellent makes. You could do worse by getting a CZ 17HMR as well as a .22LR. Personally, I would buy a 'cheaper' but still excellent CZ model, and put the rest of the money on a better scope.
Whitebridges
Both guns are of merit. Whatever suits your fancy. My .22 rimfires are a Sako Finnfire 2 and an Anschutz 1416 in a thumbhole stock. The 17hmr is an Anschutz 1417. For me they are excellent. The choice is yours. bruno22rf
Anschutz - in a class of their own.
villaman
Yes I had a look at the new Anschutz 1761 and very nice too but At £1160 CZ 457 royal is very similar to 1761 but £
Whitebridges
My Annie wasn't anywhere near that sort of dough. I've changed the scope on it. At the time of the picture below i was shooting long range crows and magpies.

itchy trigger
very accurate guns, go to a dealer that has them all for you to handle, i did, came out with a Tx1, smooth, nice action, like the way the safety locks the bolt as well, don't see them second hand that says a lot, bonus is barrel in HMR not fussy either, dirty or clean, hot or cold

Scully
I think it’s all down to personal preference, but in my opinion they don’t come any better than CZ.
Rimfireboy
Both the cz and the tikka will be good. I’ve shot the tikka in both .17 and .22 and they were nice to shoot and accurate. I haven’t had a shot with a 457, although I don’t like the look of the royal, but I do like the look of the mtr. Ive had a 452 in .17hmr for about ten years and it works well enough for me. I don’t think you’ll go far wrong with either, I prefer Anschutz and the original Sako Finnfire.
billytheghillie
I take it you know the Royal has a walnut stock?? Ask yourself, would I be better with a synthetic stock, no knocks or bumps, dings to worry about.

I know what you mean but most of my guns are walnut , I tend to be very careful with everything I own , including my work tools , my wife tells me I treat my guns bikes , tools better than I treat her , yes I said but they give me more joy than you 😂 Edited November 13, 2019 by villaman
bumpy22
Tikka t1x you will not regret it. Tikka made fantastic CFS then they brought out there first rimfire on the same action. No brainer
telf
Anschutz , ive just treated myself and returned to an anschutz 1517 hmr upgraded from a cz , absolutely cracking guns i thought the cz was accurate but this is like a laser , you can still get the 1517 at present but they have stopped making them , i also have the 1417 .22 annie which again is brilliant

Muddy Funker
You might find you hardly ever use the 22 if you buy both.
Dekers
Mine all go back a while now but never found a need to change, they are all CZ452 except for the Magtech Semi at the bottom. There is no question that Anschutz make good guns but from my perspective you simply pay a lot more for no advantage in the field over a CZ. Benthejockey
My 17 is a CZ. It was my first proper rifle. Brand spanking new CZ silhouette 452, scope, SAK mod and a box of bullets was £400. This is 11 or 12 years ago now. It's my 2nd favourite gun. My first being a second hand BSA CF2 in @Walker570 favourite calibre...243 😂😂😂 the 17 has accounted for more foxes than all the others combined. I do approave of the actual rifle though if not the calibre. Good solid tools akin to the old Parker Hales.
