Shotgun certificate GP not playing ball

Recommended Posts

Hi folks. My notice for renewal just came through - cert expires in October. I dropped the GP form off only to get a phone call telling me that they didn't do that any more. I double checked and sure enough my GP no longer provides the data to Norfolk constabulary. They just won't.

Anyone has this issue and/or know an alternative or way around this?

Rgds

Your GP might say they won't provide the information, but they don't have a choice. They don't have exemption from the Data Protection Act. Using a firm like Medcert means that they have to provide a Subject Access Request (i.e. provide your medical records) free of charge.

It shows that the practice isn’t very switched on. They can either do the admin and take your £50 or do the same for Medicert and earn precisely nothing …..?!

I’m sure if this basic business reality was illustrated - they would change their policy.

But they may be relatively intelligent GPs with pointless principles!  :w00t:

I pointed this out to my Practice Manager. The logic seemed lost upon him. I got an apology and let it go at that.

Three people served Subject Access Requests on the same Practice. Three went missing and were only dealt with when a second was served. I assume the Practice has a serial numpty employed there.

Viagra, Valium, Amitriptyline, by any chance?

valium was one ....any anti-depressants etc....used to trigger a response from the GP to the constabulary......ive never taken any of those so ive never had a problem.....i have heard that some people on anti-depressants ...that the plod was made aware of triggered a weapons snatch response........

If you are a member of BASC I believe they now have a panel of Doctors who will do it for £50.  Medcert £60.

i didnt know about the BASC panel,so I used Medcert, no issues, fast turn around only slowed down by my Doctors clicking their heels

hurrah for basc.its a shame they never stood up for shooters years back when the first force decided to introduce this with no agreement with other bodies that would be involved. this is truly an organisation that is no longer fit for purpose

my GP never wrote a letter to Norfolk Constabulary...all they were required to do was to inform the plod of anything particular medication i had been prescribed......

I explained this to them. They're just not doing it.

It is about principles, apparently. They consider it private work and they don't do private work. Never stopped them when I had renewals in the past. Still, I'm sure I can work around it the way people have recommended. Again, thanks to all

As said, a Subject Access Request / Data Subject Access Resquest (SAR / DSAR) is the way to go (both the sane thing btw)

Your medical records are your personal information - your GP cannot legally refuse to provide them to either yourself or another party that you designate.

If you do have trouble, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) is who you want to refer them to.

I'm dreading my renewal, I was prescribed Amitriptyline one lot of 28 tablets for Nerve pain when i had a shoulder operation,  i'm hoping as it was connected to the operation it wont be an issue.

It won’t be a problem, believe me.

I don't think it should be an issue, I've been on them a number of years

It’s the reason and not the medication.
Like many other meds, SSRI’s and SNRI’s have multiple uses and neuropathy is one.
Everybody seems to assume that as your taking an ‘anti depressant’,that it will cause as problem which simply isn’t the case.

I was speaking to my FEO and he said that it is the doctors side of things holding everything up. If the Doctors would play ball then we would have 10 year certificates, the police would monitor the criminal side of things and doctors the health side but nooo they wont play ball and everthing grinds to  a snails pace.

so if all doctors was the same as mine, and filled in my forms in 2 days that would good.

I can beat that, my doctor filled mine in while I was in the surgery and on top of that he only charged me £15 :yahoo:

Just making best use of his time... what with having both hands free during your prostate examination.

it was a young female doctor, she was checking me for erectile dysfunction, but she said, well that seems to be working just fine. ;)

I missed the ‘s’ he on my original post :)
