So B/ham Council hve filed for Special Administration as they cannot pay the bills   which means we the taxpayer will have to step in  and guess what? the union blames the leadership for excessive waste and overspending interesting times ahead if this is what Starmer thinks is the blueprint for a Labour Gov. i expect someone will defend the Councils spending

There are some pretty useless people getting paid mega money for doing very little on the payroll of most councils.

Pruning them out would be a start

Plus, I believe, councils don't have a pension fund. They pay their pensions out of the money we pay in as council tax every month.

Oh yes, have a cull of the useless, far too many get in to a good position and stop doing much at all.  :good:

Don't know about the pension situation, but wouldn't be surprised.

Agreed. But those who would take decisions on pruning are themselves in positions mostly justified by the number of people, branches, divisions etc they control. The laws of Self Survival dictate that if you prune too deeply then your own job becomes at risk. So it will not happen to any great extent.

One issue which needs correcting right away is the civil service  three day week / four day weekend (ooops, sorry, I mean the working from home life balance!!). It’s one thing I find myself in agreement with Rees-Mogg. They should all be back in the office. If they can socialise in pubs, restaurants, cinema, etc etc then, clearly, they can go back to the office. However, the Permanent Secretaries (the Top a dog at a ministry) openly disagree with Ministers on this so it isn’t going to happen.

Immigration has bankrupted this country, most have large families and can tick every benefit box.

Specifically illegal immigration, but yes it’s no doubt caused a lot of the issues. Subsidised university education won’t have helped either. Hard to justify it with the rubbish that universities spout now.

It's not about working from home as much as NOT working from home.

When you are at home nobody can see what you are really doing. (or not doing)

It's so obvious you are going to have "distractions" .

You would have to be absolutely stupid not to believe it is true

If ALL council's, not just Birmingham made sure all their employees and sub contractors carried out their jobs on time and for no extra payments, we would all get a council tax rebate.

Not the done thing old bean, they became bosom mates 20+years ago.

Vince no the council local gov pension are funded and  be checked every 3 years to ensure benefits are covered by the assets !

central gov police teachers and nhs are  un funded so no pension pots.  those paying in are effectively paying those on pension
