Starmers like a rabbit caught in the headlights, watching the truck bear down on him, paralysed .

Hardly. They are ready to go. So much prep.

I think it likely they could get a second term whatever. For the first time right of centre vote is split with reform.

What exactly is wrong with it ?

What's right with it? Add in tax receipts to expenditure, lack of infrastructure investment. Everything is wrong with it.

Lets be honest, the result wasnt unexpected, voter apathy, a desire to do something 'different' because the last government didnt,

I don't think it was voter apathy, there were some impressive turn outs, Cambridge was in excess of 60%.

I think many votes were effectively wasted protest votes that unfortunately allowed Labour a landslide victory.

Ive got to disagree Dave, 60 % is slightly above national average , and the lowest for 20 years.

If everyone is so disgruntled by the tories 14 years of ineptitude, why did they not get out there ?

I'll never be a billionaire,  I'll never be rich, but I'm comfortable,  let's hope Labour doesn't screw me over, and the thing is so are other people my age than I know, who work force living and don't expect to be spoon fed.

They won't do it in one. Everything is a mess. The Tories achieved less than zero in 14years and trashed everything. Every service, every part of the economy, crime, prisons roads, schools, simply everything. I don't envy labour dealing with this hospital pass.

Starter for ten must be higher public standards.

Hard to see how the Tories can come back ,now their base is divided, in a term so labour may get an extension. The test will be holding it together.

Labour will do well not to implode, but I've a feeling it won't take long.

just go round in circles, and its mainly because the vast majority of voters dont understand how government and politics really work.

Lad in work said he went in, had read and looked at nothing,  put an X in a box and walked out 😅😅 not bothered or interested.

I was surprised he voted, not heard anyone else mentioning it.

Very aware of Covid and the invasion..

are you aware of how much money was wasted by the exiting government during Covid?  Things such as ‘help out to eat out’ the great covid spreader, PPE contracts issued to unsuitable ‘companies’ even a pub landlord got in on the gravy, the wide open ‘grant’ system to businesses that was robbed blind because it could be, etc. etc.  As for the Invasion, well the Billionaires made Hay with that one thats for sure.  Look at the Oil price fluctuations, the rapid nature of the changes, then compare that to the price we pay for Petrol, Diesel, Gas and Electricity and you will see they bear no comparison.

As for the Economy, we have the highest tax burden for the lowest level of public services in History.  The Economy is not just how well big International Business is doing, it is also about how well the population is fairing, and right now many small Businesses and many many people are struggling.

How is that a good situation?

Luke Pollard MP  - need to keep an eye on this man:-

But he warned that his party had inherited a dire situation after years of Tory government chaos. He also vowed to work for changes to gun laws following the 2021 Keyham shootings, to ensure nothing like it ever happens again.

Spot on. Food banks cost of living, the cost of energy. Rwanda too what a total p in a brewery that was. Baroness many what's her face,  the decoration of no 10. So so much waste we have forgotten half of it.

The last 14 years have been squandered. The last 5 years must rate as one of the worst government periods ever. Every measure worse off. Even life expectancy has declined.

Depends how long they're in for, although all it will take is for another "incident" involving licenced guns and that'll be the excuse they need to come down hard.

Another of the 'top team', our new Foreign Secretary may struggle to get on with Trump ......... based on what he said about Trump publicly in the past;

It would seem to me rather important that the Foreign Secretary keeps on good terms with our allies Heads of State.

Be prepared for nothing much changing, and a similar thing happening in 5 years, where a wishy washy tory party regains power, maybe with some Reform support, and we start the stupidity cycle over again.
Albeit with 5 million more mouths to feed.

Bang on.

My parents have voted conservative for forever. The old man spitting feathers voted Reform ‘to let them know’ (sic Conservative HQ) but the old dear having lived through the 70’s was convinced that the country would get to the ballot box, baulk and it would become a close call.

We tried to explain to her that it was over and that there was no chance for the Tories so stick it to the man with a Reform vote and let them know else they will take the vote as continuing support / a pat on the back. She didn’t listen and despite being as hacked off as everyone else with the Tories she voted for Tory but not out of love or support for the Torys but ‘because Labour would be worse’.

And this morning we had conservative ministers crowing that the votes the party received was evidence of continuing voter support and that the Tory’s had to regroup and refocus on the centre (perhaps a smidge to the left) because that’s where elections are won, and that the beastly ultra right wing Reform party should be ignored etc.

What an unbelievable, tin ear - I could have put my foot through the telly 😆
