I think many votes were effectively wasted protest votes that unfortunately allowed Labour a landslide victory.

Ive got to disagree Dave, 60 % is slightly above national average , and the lowest for 20 years. If everyone is so disgruntled by the tories 14 years of ineptitude, why did they not get out there ? I'll never be a billionaire, I'll never be rich, but I'm comfortable, let's hope Labour doesn't screw me over, and the thing is so are other people my age than I know, who work force living and don't expect to be spoon fed. 4 hours ago, oowee said: They won't do it in one. Everything is a mess. The Tories achieved less than zero in 14years and trashed everything. Every service, every part of the economy, crime, prisons roads, schools, simply everything. I don't envy labour dealing with this hospital pass. Starter for ten must be higher public standards. Hard to see how the Tories can come back ,now their base is divided, in a term so labour may get an extension. The test will be holding it together. Labour will do well not to implode, but I've a feeling it won't take long.

Things such as ‘help out to eat out’ the great covid spreader, PPE contracts issued to unsuitable ‘companies’ even a pub landlord got in on the gravy, the wide open ‘grant’ system to businesses that was robbed blind because it could be, etc. etc. As for the Invasion, well the Billionaires made Hay with that one thats for sure. Look at the Oil price fluctuations, the rapid nature of the changes, then compare that to the price we pay for Petrol, Diesel, Gas and Electricity and you will see they bear no comparison. As for the Economy, we have the highest tax burden for the lowest level of public services in History. The Economy is not just how well big International Business is doing, it is also about how well the population is fairing, and right now many small Businesses and many many people are struggling. How is that a good situation?

So so much waste we have forgotten half of it. The last 14 years have been squandered. The last 5 years must rate as one of the worst government periods ever. Every measure worse off. Albeit with 5 million more mouths to feed. Bang on. My parents have voted conservative for forever. The old man spitting feathers voted Reform ‘to let them know’ (sic Conservative HQ) but the old dear having lived through the 70’s was convinced that the country would get to the ballot box, baulk and it would become a close call. We tried to explain to her that it was over and that there was no chance for the Tories so stick it to the man with a Reform vote and let them know else they will take the vote as continuing support / a pat on the back. She didn’t listen and despite being as hacked off as everyone else with the Tories she voted for Tory but not out of love or support for the Torys but ‘because Labour would be worse’. And this morning we had conservative ministers crowing that the votes the party received was evidence of continuing voter support and that the Tory’s had to regroup and refocus on the centre (perhaps a smidge to the left) because that’s where elections are won, and that the beastly ultra right wing Reform party should be ignored etc. What an unbelievable, tin ear - I could have put my foot through the telly 😆
