The rise of renewable energy has been so fast that the closure of the last coal fired power station in the UK can be brought forward to this week.

The first major nation in the world to end coal fired generation is a milestone. The UK leads the world.

Yes, the switch from cheap-ish coal towards more expensive gas and renewables should put the final nail in the coffin for steel production in the UK, yes we do seem to lead the world in stupid.

As of yesterday it already has done port talbot gone tata to build a new one india so we can import steel very kind of them.

I doubt very much the electric furnaces they say are coming in the nxt three years with compensate loss of jobs and production.

Not looking good for s****horpe now.

Tell us the best is yet to come? 😅

oowee is correct. The UK leads the world in stupidity. Whilst the eco- nutters claim the moral high ground, they do not seem to appreciate that the weather is global and new coal fired power stations in Germany and China, for example, merely replace our own. The only place we are leading is the road to economic ruin. It's embarrassing that these zealots cannot see it. We are quite happy to virtue signal to others, whilst importing oil, gas etc from the very places we scoff at.

It is beyond pathetic.

And the 'damaging CO2' is still produced regardless, and added to, by the transportation process. Genius :good:

We close the last coal fired power station in Britain in the same month as a massive coal fired power station goes on line in India

China are opening up new coal fired power stations all the time.

We are sitting on enough coal to provide us with power for the next 1000 years and its FREE we just have to dig it out.

Utter madness. Woke stupidity.

Leads the world in the cost of electricity, absolute insanity and totally wreckless.

Tata are building a brand new blast furnace in India but Govt doesn't mind throwing thousands of steel workers under the bus so they can virtue signal at COP, it is absolutely criminal.

I worked on the installation of the desulphurizing scrubbing plant there and at Drax power station who I'm led to believe still have two coal fired boilers on emergency stand by !

Yep, but they'll say their not producing it 🙈

I've worked at a few companies where they have got rid of the saws saying its dangerous and just ordered in the billets cut, disaster because if you need more bar it's three or four days rather than walking to the store.

Is the same as the ULEZ in London. An old lady with a ten year old car can't drive it 5 miles once a week to get her shopping and has had to scrap it.

However, a minicab driver with a car a few years newer is allowed to do a thousand  miles or more a week with no restrictions. Or a parcel van working all hours stopping and starting

Who is producing the pollution? Because it isn't the old lady but she had to get rid of her car.

This. The UK can eventually tick that ‘Not Zero’ compliance box. Meanwhile the USA, China, South Africa, India and Russia ramp up their production of fossil fuel energy products to meet the demand for export. 👍

Seriously, this could only be here, total disregard for everyone and everything just so that a few can get their names forward?

And the real insult to the population is the fact that the responsible few just claim it all on expenses anyway?
