The above title was the brief we were given to work from as part of the Personal Structures part of the Biennale 2024.

The exhibition was curated by a friend of mine, who travelled over there with our work.
These are the boots he wore when he worked in Venice, as obviously a foreigner, while constructing his work for the previous exhibition.
I hung the boots from my easel and painted them actual size from life.

Amazing talent you have Scully.

The miniscule detail is most certainly not to be under perceived.

Superb!

I stood on the Rialto bridge earlier in the year. Venice seems a fitting place for it to be situated.

👍

Venice is simply a wonderful place isn’t it. 👍

Incredible and an unusual subject. Do you paint anything or do you have a preference?

I’ve painted or drawn most things at one time or another, but avoid pets and animals like the plague now! Good money but it would drive me nuts!

That is absolutely brilliant Scully. I actually thought it was a photo until I noticed the comments, I wish I was that able. The holes in the left hand boot are perfect!!!

do you do signed prints of your work ?

I have a limited few Ditchy, currently. Prints are a strange thing really. I once had four images of gypsy horses printed as lithographs ( the only way to print back then ) thinking I’d display them in the local pubs around Fair week; everybody telling me I’d make a killing!
500 of them which cost me a small fortune back in the 80’s. Didn’t sell a single one! Burned most of them eventually.

I painted a particular tree in Autumn foliage which sold in a gallery within days, and the gallery owner asked me if I’d do another. I did, and it sold within days. I can’t recall how many ‘original’ versions I painted for that gallery, each selling very quickly, so decided to do a run of Ltd edition prints. Didn’t sell one! They all went over the years, but it took a long time to get my money back.

Incredible talent and very versatile with your different subjects , I remember seeing your stile on the stone wall in the fells , I thought at first you had taken a photo and then tried and convince the forum you had painted it

I expect, as many artists before you, you will live and die in comparative poverty and your paintings will become very valuable after you are gone.

Thanks! 😄

Like I always say; you don’t have to be good, you just have to be dead!
