Nublue 22 Posted Saturday at 19:20 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:20 (edited) We have just ordered a take away curry, now it's from a restaurant that does a take away service. We are collecting it, the bill is £31.20 my lovely wife has said you can't just pay £32.00 should I leave a tip, well I haven't, am I wrong? My defence is, iwouldn't go to the butchers and give him tip. Help and advice to keep me sain. Edited Saturday at 19:23 by Nublue
BobbyH Posted Saturday at 19:22 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:22 Tipping in the UK isn’t a thing I don’t think. In the US it’s a must! But if I’m honest, no, you shouldn’t leave a tip….of you collected the food, then why should you pay more…or am I wrong?

I have never tipped for a Takeaway, just let the driver keep the change if it is less than a couple of quid but I usually pay on card. One or two are cash only. TIGHTCHOKE Posted Saturday at 19:25 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:25 Surely not, I tip if the delivery is prompt and hot, but NOT if I collect.

Scully Posted Saturday at 20:01 Report Share Posted Saturday at 20:01 All our Chinese takeaways are cash only. I wouldn’t leave a tip at any takeaway outlet, whether it was delivered or not. I leave a tip at any place I’m waited on, even if it’s just a coffee, and I tip well. You can tell a lot about a person by their attitude towards waiting on staff. As regards America, I believe tips make up part of the pay of waiting on staff.
samboy Posted Saturday at 20:05 Report Share Posted Saturday at 20:05 The only tip i ever give is don't hit a bomb with a hammer.
marsh man Posted Saturday at 20:08 Report Share Posted Saturday at 20:08 The only odd time I have a takeaway is fish and chips , when I go to Cromer I order mine at the counter and when it is ready then I give them whatever they charge and that is it . As for tipping , I have a lady come to mine every six weeks to do my feet , the cost is £27 and as she do a good job and is always on time I give her £30 , then at the barbers , I haven't got that much hair left and the very nice lady only charge me £8 and I give her a tenner , that is about it , but I do give the dustmen a tip at Christmas as they are all a good lot of blokes and always happy . bruno22rf Posted Saturday at 20:10 Report Share Posted Saturday at 20:10 I'm guessing you just paid over £31 for around £7-£8 at most of ingredients, call the rest whatever you like.

ditchman Posted Saturday at 21:05 Report Share Posted Saturday at 21:05 (edited) PARASITES best tip i ever heard of was when Tommy Cooper was doing the summer season at Blackpool....he had the same taxi driver every night to take him back to his digs....at the end of the season....he gave the loyal tight lipped taxi driver an envelope which was quite fat...with the words "have a drink on me" when the chuffed taxi driver got home with his fat tip ...he opened the envelope to find a dozen tea bags.... Morkin Posted Saturday at 22:39 Report Share Posted Saturday at 22:39 Never tip for food stuff, we will give the Boys at our Garage at Christmas for looking after the car and doing bits for us through the year.
welsh1 Posted Saturday at 22:51 Report Share Posted Saturday at 22:51 I tip for good service, if we are out in a restaurant and the food and service has been good then we tip generously, my mechanic a while back was very busy but squeezed me in when I collected the car a crate of his favourite beer appeared in his van seat, like wise a dealer for my Spyder got me parts in days delivered across the country that enabled us to go on a long weekend that had been planned, he got a magnum of a decent wine. We appreciate good service and help, but I have been known to decline the 15 % service charge because of bad service. I think the USA system is out of control, it's used by owners to employ staff cheaply and guilt trip customers into topping up wages. As for picking up a takeaway never tip. That's the way, selective recognition of something above and beyond the necessary, OTHERWISE if we go down the American route we are effectively rewarding the ORDINARY. 8 hours ago, marsh man said: All my coats are still drying out after todays heavy rain , I could have borrowed one off Dave ( Tightchoke ) but he have been game shooting up Yorkshire today and I recon his coats are wetter than mine Oh yes, what a day, lots of coats, a gunslip and leggings hanging out side the back door drying out.
