enfieldspares Posted Sunday at 21:07 Report Share Posted Sunday at 21:07 (edited) Someone, again, on that other forum sent me a link. That six million people (actually 6,100,000) signed the UK Government website petition to revoke Article 50 and Brexit. So "quid pro quo" is it to be? As others say we don't run the UK like that...for good or for bad...so that's how it is. Folk should have voted at the ballot box when they could. Dougy Posted Sunday at 21:31 Report Share Posted Sunday at 21:31 Understanding the unlikelihood of any change from this petition it is just a way of the British public voicing opinion. Thats all.
Weihrauch17 Posted Sunday at 21:48 Report Share Posted Sunday at 21:48 (edited) Labour have made huge changes both Socially and Economically in a very short space of time that were not in their Manifesto and that makes them totally unfit for purpose, hence the Petition and the huge vote for it. Playing devil's advocate. We were warned at the time, their numbers didn't add up, they'd have to put up taxes. But people still voted them in. I hate to say it as I never voted them in and will be voting for reform for the foreseeable, but we're going to have to wait for the next general election, it is the democratic thing to do. It really annoyed me after Brexit the way democracy was subverted, it would make me a hypocrite to use the same tactics or claim people didn't know what they voted for. This is nothing, wait till AI becomes the main thing? That will enable the insane to really exploit the worst asylum features without any control possible? Looking back at history, technology has rarely been used for the wider good of mankind. Sure we've had a few conveniences from it, but broadly it's the elites who have benefited the most. The worst thing is, in the past, the peasants have always been needed, or rather their labour anyway. With AI, if/when it becomes advanced enough, that may no longer hold true. Without proper checks and balances against that happening I have no idea what the outcome would be, but the human race has never been in that position before, it could be a very concerning future. They are in no way shape or form ready to take on running the country. They want to do alot of things but don't see them as a party being mature enough. Also don't be surprised if they did a really bad deal with the US to cripple farming in a different way in this country.

I voted Reform and have never voted Labour. This is totally different to trying to overturn the Brexit vote. That was simply an attempt to overturn the result that they didn't like. This petition is about Labours horrendous actions since winning. It won't make a jot of difference anyway but nice to see so many sign it. I think it's legitimate for those who voted Labour to complain that Labour hasn't delivered what they voted for. But for people like myself who didn't vote for them to now try to overturn a democratic election is not right IMHO.

You miss the point, it is not about trying to overturn the result of the election but a massive protest against Labours actions since the election that were not in the Manifesto they were elected on. I'm sure the remain voters would have said similar. We didn't know what we voted for, the reality of Brexit was different to what the country voted for. I don't believe it's for the opposition to speak on behalf of those who voted for Brexit and equally I don't believe it right for me to say those who voted Labour are dissatisfied with what they've done to date. Again only my personal opinion.

Also, isn’t it a tad hypocritical? Akin to those calling for a second eu ( not worthy of higher case type ) referendum cos they didn’t like the result? This ^^^ With the majority that he has Starmer will never lose a vote of no confidence. It would require Labour to effectively vote themselves out of office. What troubles me most about this labour government is their lack of basic knowledge about how the real world exists. They are almost child like in their adherence to outdated socialism. We are going to punish the rich/farmers/landlords/ non-doms etc because they are the enemy and we hate them. It's like being back in my old College Student Union Bar in the 1970s all over again. So now the rich will move their money abroad, the farms will end up being sold to Chinese investors when death duties have to be paid. Landlords are selling up and pulling out in droves, evicting tenants and creating a massive housing crisis and the non Doms don't give a toss because there is no way these delusional politicians can ever tax them. And all of this is making things better because ........? Strange how none of them seem willing to go on record and criticise Russia isn't it?
