pigeon controller
For a few weeks now one farmer has been on to us to sort out the pigeons , every time we turn up they either go off in one flock and do not return or they are not on his farm. We suspect that he has been shooting them off as he has not got a gas gun. So this Friday we promised him that we would give him a day and stay at the farm. Now i'm a firm believer in "Karma" what goes round comes round, or You get out of something whatever you put into it. We arrived and it had about fifty birds in the trees and nothing feeding so we made the excuse that DB needed a sandwich and left it an hour to allow them the feed undisturbed. When we returned we set up and waited . We just had twelve thawed birds and put them on cradles in the rape, no magnet. The first bird in landed with the decoys so we had it right. it was about 12.00 and we settled in to regular shots and we soon had fifty birds out on the rape. At about 14.00 it went very quiet and we thought it was all over. We heard a helicopter in the distance which is not a rare thing in these parts especially during the Afgan conflict with chinooks comming up to the QE with injured squaddies. We also get the Air Ambulance and Police choppers. This started to push birds to us again and in the end we had two hours of frantic shooting as the helicopter was checking the electricity wires and traversed all round the farm we were on at a very low level. It went away and we packed up and collected one hundred and sixty one birds. So doing a good deed for the farmer gave us a good day. Saturday 07.00 game dealer collected birds from garage floor, 08.00 pick up DB, headed out to a flock that we have not hit for two weeks. As we approached the farm we see a rocket burst over the field. This caused a flock of about three hundred birds to go off in a very tight flock. We drive down to the farm and talk to the farmer who tells us that the birds have been comming back every afternoon for the passed week. We were not convinced but decided to look around the area and possibly return later on. We did a ten mile drive around the area and could not find the flock so returned to the farm and chose a position for the hide so we could shoot both fields depending on the wind direction. We were set up for 13.00 and birds started to return and we had some steady shooting with just birds on cradles and spikes. We had seventy birds out and then brought all the shot birds into the hide. The birds returned in one's and two's which was brilliant and we knew we were in for a mega bag again. We stopped shooting at 16.00 and started the pick up the birds and lay them out for the photo, we had one hundred and fifty one birds so it had been a three hundred plus weekend. Passionforangling
I recognise that one in the second picture, third row back, second from the left. I think it was the one I saw yesterday around here. Seriously, the Sutton Coldfield area appeared to be totally devoid of pigeons yesterday! And I mean devoid, there was hardly a bird to be seen so it wasn't worth setting up even. Another remarkable weekend for you two, great shooting and preparation as always

SNS
Great work. Especially for the game dealer as presumably he just takes a truck to you each week and doesn't need to go anywhere else.
