keg
There have been a number of gay pride parades recently. It got me thinking that if we had a straight pride parade people might think that we are being homophobic. As there should no difference in the way anyone is treated based on their sexual, cultural or religious leanings in the 21st century, is there still a need for the pride parades? Does it do more harm than good?
Jaymo
It's like many thing Minorities have their 'Days' 'Marches' and it's acceptable. Majorities do the same and are branded , Racist, homophobic, ageist, anti-political etc Smacks of double standards if u ask me........ Right, am just of to join a demonstration against demonstrations

AVB
It's only a bit of fun and I am reasonably sure that Homosexuality won''t be made compulsory. As to the question does it do more harm than good I think neither. Would the world go on without them, yes, but in the same instance having them doesn't cause any grief. So why not. You could argue the same about Paddy's day parades.
lord_seagrave
It's human nature that minority groups will feel anxious amongst a majority. Minority days and parades are affirming for those minorities, and raises awareness amongst the majority. Such days and parades are in my opinion an excellent thing for this country. Promoting diversity and acceptance makes the world a stronger, safer place for all of us. You've got to take a wider view here - international at least, and intergalactic ideally. Think about how marginalised women were in British society historically - that's no minority group - nearly half of the population held back. Think about how much greater and stronger this country would have been if women played an inclusive part in our history. How many homosexuals have been held back, criminalised or marginalised over the years? Think about Alan Turing. Think about how much stronger and greater this country could have been if he had played a fully inclusive part in our history. Blacks, Jews, Moslems, Irish - how many countless other minority groups have been held back over the years? Look globally at the repression that is going on. Think about the proud Iraquis who are unlucky enough to be God-fearing Christians. How much could they have contributed to the life of their nation. Think about minority Syrians, minority Sri Lankans, Ugandans, Rwandans, how many more places on earth are people pointlessly held back because of their differences? I look forward to 'Christian Pride Day' in Iraq, 'Female Pride Day' in Saudi Arabia, 'Tamil Pride Day' in Sri Lanka. All human beings. What a thought the the human race might be a minority one day. Sian
Personally if people can run with any excuse to party they do and why shouldn't they - it really wasn't that long ago that you were imprisoned for this and therefore they are still celebrating - good on them. Billy.
I'm sure a number of people drive round with their BASC sticker proudly on display in the car. You're a minority showing support for what you're proud of. It's funny how people can be put off by a number of gay prides, but not see the similarities between this and the stigma of shooting and guns by the ignorant and ill informed. If it doesn't affect your life and it is legal, let people do and enjoy what they like. Edited July 3, 2015 by Billy.

Billy.
. Just my opinion . We are all entitled to an opinion . Harnser I love these threads. They help dig out the people who I know not to associate myself with. This could have been a decent thread, but luckily the only person to come out in this thread, is you, as a homophobe

Vince Green
The pride march in london is totally outrageous and OTT. Nobody could be offended by it, they are just playing it for laughs. The coppers get so much banter.
humperdingle
I'm surprised that so many people still care - and are vocal - about what other people do in a private relationship (?!) As already has been said, many parts of society hold parades for all sorts of reasons... who cares? If people are passionate enough about what they believe in, go ahead! Duckandswing
Both my brothers are Gay. They still like football, beer and burgers just not the girls. I cannot say I understand their desires but then I'm not them. Each to their own I say. Anyone who hasn't been to a pride rally should go, they are totally mental and everybody has a laugh. Zapp
My take on it is this. I served in the military with a number of comrades who turned out (after the rule change) to be gay, lesbian or trans. They all served with honour and distinction, and I'm proud to have known them. I value their views, opinions and choicesin where to find love and happiness well above the views of those to whom I am onlu loosely associated via a shared hobby, and who would deny it them out of hand.
