Vince Green
I have become a huge fan of our local Poundland Store. For more and more things now it is my first port of call. A good example is my diary, I use an A5 page a day diary, I used to pay about £7 for one each year. This year I bought one for £1 and it is no different in any way that I can see. Its good quality paper etc not an obvious cheapo. Their Christmas stuff was amazing for the price. Is anyone else smitten? I can't wait for them to start selling cartridges Edited December 29, 2015 by Vince Green

rodp
Always used to buy my reading glasses from there, on recommendation from a friend, they were actually better than my prescription ones. Stopped doing them now I believe

The Mighty Prawn
They have such incredible purchase power that even the big boys like Mars and Cadbury manufacture special sized items to hit the price point of £
rodp
According to a tv program about them they never pay more than 50p an item, if supplier can't meet that then they don't buy it.
Chris Bb
It's easy to get carried away with the "only £1 per item" frenzy. You'll find many things they sell are available elsewhere for 80p or are a smaller size than is otherwise available. Much other stuff just isn't worth £1. The documentary showed that is exactly the business model, a few loss leaders to get you in and then the price blindness hits and you grab a load of bargains for a pound that you could buy cheaper everywhere else but think you're getting a great deal
Vince Green
I'm still impressed, just bought a good solid padlock for the gate for £1. It would be five times that in Homebase. Bought some duct tape as well, thats about a fiver in homebase too
rimfire4969
The padlocks I have seen at the poundshops are not worth the price tag.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, have to agree with vince despite the jokey cart comment, it is like most things in life you pays your money and takes your choice, i see many parents with young children/ then i see boys from a private school spending £20 on sweets/crisps then i see many pensioners buying a tin steak and kidney pie, i buy from my local £shop but i have time to look to see if it is cheaper else where depending on what i need so take my favourite chocolate biscuite nearly £2 in waitrose in there a £1, i foresee more of these shops opening due to the economic restraint of those who are soon and in future retire on what most goverments think we can live on, there is a 99p shop at witney but have never seen ( WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER ) dave in there shopping

Aled
Its only a bargain if you need it! ..................However I always have a look in the poundshop, and usually come out with something so I fall for the marketing ploy!! Bigbob
We used to have pound land and pound world then they started a price war and went down to 99p so the other went down to 97p now most of the stuff is rubbish but Asda and TESCO are wanting £1.65 for a smoked sausage they can sell for 97p
Chris Bb
Asda and TESCO are wanting £1.65 for a smoked sausage they can sell for 97p Is it really the same sausage? Quality & quantity? Could be a "loss leader" or could be a "fake".
