wymberley
One minute you've got an heart warming thread like LG and his trip to Bristol and the next, you're brought back down with a thud. When faced with stories such as this, can we really criticise the activities of the law abiding antis and object to their points of view? If, albeit in the unlikely event in view of the suspected calibre used, any bullets were retrieved.............I need not go on,you get my drift. fenboy
When I saw the title I was expecting , some yob's to have shot them with an airgun . If they have indeed been shot with a CF then it is even more worrying as there is a strong chance it's by someone who actually has a licence. I don't have much rifle experience but would they not look a bit more of a mess if shot with a 243 ?. Either way its truly shocking and does not show us shooters in a good light. islandgun
can only hope the police are currently doing the rounds of the owners of that calibre in the area
Lord Geordie
Totally Abhorrent behaviour And if they are correct about caliber, then its a bit of a worry! Local feud with another farm? Seems odd they chose lambs so young they have no value meat wise! And to take so many shots in one evening! One would hope if its a ticket holder, they would approach the police, and hand themselves in!

rjimmer
"something like a .243" It's a calibre that comes to the mind of people, but sounds like pure guesswork.
Dougy
"something like a .243" It's a calibre that comes to the mind of people, but sounds like pure guesswork. I'm sure it is, probably the 1st caliber that someone from the paper's heard of. I think / know there would be allot more trauma than it shows. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from some low life thing associated with humans.

It would depend on the bullet construction, but the entry holes look the same as when I've shot sheep with a .243.
Grandalf
Would need detailed inspection of the carcass to estimate the calibre. Might be possible to find spent bullet or a case.

I think / know there would be allot more trauma than it shows. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from some low life thing associated with humans. I think the trauma very much depends on what the bullet actually struck. I've shot fox with a 243 which looked as though the calibre might well have been a 22 LR. As I read the piece, it was the sheep farmer who suggested it might have been a big calibre - like a 243.
Dougy
"Shot 6 times in the back" Regardless of damage or caliber it's despicable, and the culprits should be punished severly
TONY R
Some low life scum with an off ticket handgun is my guess, .32 something like that. Filth they want locking up and the key chucking away for that.

Vince Green
If you shot a lamb six times with a .243 there would be nothing left to aim at. Hard to judge from the pictures but I can see no real evidence of a high velocity rifle. The other thing that puzzled me is than two more lambs had to be taken to the vet to be put down. If they were shot with a .243 I would have thought even if they weren't killed outright they would have bled out in a very short time. I don't really see anything that couldn't have been down to an overpower air rifle at short range, but i'm guessing, I don't really see how anybody with a .243 would do that, they are not easy to get.
