Gunman
We will be advised to keep a careful eye on pets and animals as the bangs from fireworks can scare and upset them . There is another group who may well also be affected by these , ex service men an women who have been affected by tours in Iraq and Afghanistan . My son in law after 12 years as an Army medic who severed in Ireland ,Kosovo and 3 tours of Iraq [Mentioned in Dispatches ] even after 7 years still gets nervous and edgy around this time .So please spare a thought for these men and women many who are still not over the traumas that there service has had on them . Lord Geordie
My pooch is petrified to the point she won't go out! She whines and walks around in circles, yanks on the leash and generally goes mad. I took her for a walk earlier! Just rounded the top of the wood, and some little ***** set off a huge mortar right in our path the poor dog went into a form of psychosis and again just now went Barmy because a neighbour has set off loads! Greenhunter
I really would like to see fireworks limited to organised and well publicised public displays! No fireworks at any other time so that those of us that have pets or indeed relatives who are troubled by loud bangs and flashes can take the necessary step to alleviate the stress and suffering caused by the aforementioned!! stevo_m
Something we have been testing this year with our dog is a thunder shirt. https://www.thedodo.com/dogs-fireworks-trick-1529471151.html Has worked really well tonight for our dog, and getting reports from my other friends, their dogs haven't been bothered by the fireworks also this year. Well worth a try. Steve
herby
Yes all banging should be kept for one night a year. Will save everyone a fortune on cartridges
wascal
driving home tonight , dog on back seat asleep opened window for some air just as some mega sonic bangs went off !! Then had a 40Kg Doberman shaking on my lap while still doing 30mph. Was sporting for a while . Had to spend 10 mins calming the poor dog down before moving off again. fortune
I've heard of a thunderbox but never a thundershirt . All of the dogs that I have had love the fireworks. when there is a firework let off the spaniel that I have is UP to heal looking around as if to see where the next pheasant is coming down. when we go outside she just goes like a lunatic sqeeking and wailing, racing around and looking to where the fireworks are going off. until the next rocket goes up. her tail is wagging so fast it's a wonder that she doesn't catch alight. luckily this total luny behaviour doesn't extend into the shooting field. Well too much. she is a spaniel after all.
Footu
When my dog was a pup we were out for a walk at night at some kids let off a banger at the top of the field. She ran in to try and retrieve, i thought id lost her but kept still and whistled recall, 5 mins later she came back covered in mud and a look that said ' nope, couldnt find it' She is not at all bothered by fireworks, but has run in to collect game ever since. im going to blame the fireworks anyway.........lol
Doc Holliday
That's a good point the OP has. I'm also in the camp of having fireworks at licensed displays because, as previously mentioned, it would limit it to the one night of the year for which is was intended rather than the week either side of it, or more. Although my dog is much better with them now, she won't do her business or will stop mid flow if a big'un goes off nearby. The other thing as well that needs to be considered is the safety aspect. The fireworks you can buy over the counter are much more powerful than the old 'Standard Fireworks' ever were, which used to sound like a rather disgruntled cat at best. The guy over the back of me was letting some off last night and I was waiting for his roof to catch fire, such was the proximity to the house that he was setting them off. Wb123
I love firework season, I'm all for fireworks all year round. If we object to fireworks (which are hardly an all year or all day issue at present) I don't think we have a leg to stand on regarding complaints about shooting noise. Paul1440
Our dog isn't botheted by them. In fact there's always been at least one, sometimes as many as five in the house and a couple that have lived outside in kennels. I can't recall any that have had issues with fireworks. I accept that it can't be nice for those with issues but still tend to agree with Wb we can't complain about grounds getting closed due to noise issues, Townies moving to the country etc. It's not like they are on every night. Adge Cutler
My rescue Lurcher thingy would sleep through a nuclear attack. He's o laid back he is literally horizontal ! team tractor
I agree fireworks should be limited to a few weeks a year but they have been restricted the last few years. To all the grumpy ******* I ask. When you were young didn't you ever play with bangers and air bombs I admit I used to spend all my pocket money on bangers over 20 years ago but I did take them to a local woods and play. I never played on my housing estate tho . I'll add I've 3 kids from 18 months to 10 years and 2 cats but none are bothered by fireworks. I wish they still made bangers :(

Jaymo
I wish they still made bangers :( Well I'm keeping up the 'British' end as we have just had some fireworks in the garden for the children as we do every year.... Our neighbours stopped to have a look too. Regarding Bangers- don't know about the UK but here they sell them the size of two 12g carts end on and boy do they 'bang'
shaun4860
I wish they still made bangers :( Do they not? Best ones I ever had were when we lived in Germany, They looked like action man sized sticks of dynamite, and came I a round cardboard box about the size of a 500 tin of pellets, They were silly loud..... BB We used to do that but I remember as a kid the fuses are real short ( 3 seconds) we used to launch them I'm sling shots down the canal. This is over 20 years ago I'll add plus if I caught my boy doing it I'd clip his ear. I guess I've grown up

welsh1
I have a friend who has spent the last two evenings wearing earphones and playing music as loud as he can stand it.He let off fire works as a kid and had fun.But there was a large explosion when we did an exercise in Germany, people were horrifically injured,he was first there,he saved a bloke's life, the images will haunt us all.He then went on to be high up in EOD and witnessed a lot more.It mat be fun for some, but to others it brings the demons back .
