weedraker
Hi, I've just purchased a 525 with rusty marks on the barrel, the ones on the end seem quite deep. I'm guessing it was put away wet with salty water or blood on it. Are these marks too deep to recover from? Can anyone recommend a place to send it that won't break the bank? Hopefully I've posted photos below! Regards Michael y

Pigeon Shredder.
Ye god's, was it a bargain you could not walk away from when you bought that, looks like it has been in a salt spray cabinet for a week. If you get it back in shape someone has performed a mirical. Good luck in your efforts.

Brodie
Looking at the pitting half way along the barrel is it out of proof?
panoma1
Looking at the pitting half way along the barrel is it out of proof? Nope! Proof is to do with bore diameter, pitting on the outside of the barrels does not affect proof.

bruno22rf
As a Multi choke, cutting a couple of inches off the tubes is NOT an option - these barrels need proper attention from a competent Gunsmith. Cannot believe anyone could treat such a Gun in this way,
welshwarrior
You'll need to speak to a blacking man we have two very good ones on the site Dan aka barrel blacker And Paul barrel browner Both do fantastic work for the trade and I believe offer it to members as well. ditchman
just out of interest ...do you know what caused that damage ...or the history of the user/gun............
subsonicnat
The gun being sold,,Has all the hallmarks of a gun that brushed either Samphire or grasses on the Marsh... As the pitting is very aggressive.. The weapon must be cleaned and oiled at the earliest opportunity. Prefferably back at the car with oily cloth.. Salt water does damage in minutes not hours.. As said VERY AGGRESSIVE STUFF.
HDAV
Nope! Proof is to do with bore diameter, pitting on the outside of the barrels does not affect proof. Not sure as it's the wall thickness that's key orrosion from either side reduces that although most often it's bore measurement used surely it's a reduction in wall thickness that counts? I may be wrong, but I think you'll find that thin barrel walls doesn't determine whether a gun is legal to sell or take it legally out of proof, it is usually (but not always) the bore diameter that determines whether a gun is legal to sell or whether it is in proof' or 'out of proof'....whether it would be accepted in its current condition for test by the proofhouse, or pass reproof is another matter! Proof is one thing, whether a gun is safe or not....is another.
subsonicnat
Just realised,,if the barrels ARE CUT,,The chokes will not fit anyway.. Even if you decided to Cut the first inch off,the gun cliniclly (Barrels) are scrap.? Would you buy the gun with adapted chokes,,,I don't think so.. You'd cut them back behind the mc and have TC in each or get them Teague choked expensive. Possible repairs laser weld to fill pits and reblack not cheap either Corse option use a suitable filler then smooth it all out and Cerakote.
