Poland next to leave

It seems more likely than ever that Poland will be the next EU member to leave.  They are now under threat from the EU itself because they are objecting to being oppressed by the EU.

I think they are suddenly realising that .."from the frying pan to the fire"... appears to be the situation, from one oppressive communist state into another oppressive communist state.

The Poles are proud people and I do not believe they are going to be pushed around by a bunch of unelected leeches.

This is wide ranging but on one specific issue I heard one the ruling party MPs defending the appointment of the judiciary against EU objection but he used exactly the same argument that the EU uses in the appointment of its own commissioners.  That is, the people elect their representatives who appoint whom they wish and therefore it's democratic.  What's good for the goose and all that, except obviously it's not.  Hypocrites.

BUT ...the people didn't elect those making the decisions in Brussels, even one of their own Tusk got a shoe in.

Absolutely.  Some consider this to be democracy but I don't think it's generally thought so in the British mould though, I certainly don't and it was one of my three main reasons for voting to leave.

I'm not sure if Poland will be next to leave, there are other contenders.  Longer term, I could see geographical and cultural blocks going their own way.

Who cares about a trade deal. We leave the indevidual countries want to sell products here we make a deal with that country not Europe as a whole.

Its a free market get the cuffs off and let’s get on with it.

I hope lots of the biggest countries leave it.

Everyone is so worried about these EU countries not wanting to play ball once we leave. Can you imagine Germany saying "No we won't sell those schweinhunds any of our Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Porsche etc etc. That'll certainly teach them a lesson. We'll sell them to Greece instead."

WE may end up a free market - I certainly hope so; the EU is very far from a free market

If we leave without a 'deal', the EU will only let the EU industries (e.g. the German car makers) sell to us under WTO rules - which would put duty on the trade.  Who receives the duty paid is unclear to me - but I can see eyes in the EU lighting up like a cash register.  They are near broke - would be broke without about 4 countries who carry virtually ALL of the costs.

NO nation in the EU can make their own free trade deals;  That is the one of the biggest reasons for us to get out

And how many Billions wil Poland give the EU when they leave.

hello, i heard on one of the brexit discussions that we buy more goods from  EU countries than they buy from us ? so will they not want to continue trading after we leave the EU, anyway is it not a small number compared to the rest of the world that we can trade with, as for countrymans comment i do not  think the poles will want to pay any money

We buy 70 billion pounds more from the EU than they do from us and we pay approximately 250 million per week for the privilege. It's nuts, member states would put huge pressure on the EU to trade with us we're like a giant walking customer if they won't trade with us itll be their loss we'll take our custom elsewhere.

But the problem is that 70 million of trade is shared around all the EU countries, whereas any trade we sell to the EU the whole cost (if any has to be bourne solely by us) or we have to find other markets on our own.

I'm sure the german high end car market will not be happy but as a country wide % it will be far smaller so easier to overcome (if it comes to that)

I do think the EU is a busted flush and I'm sure other countries will be having doubts, but was there not also stories in the past about 'frexit', a dutch exit (can't remember their nickname for it) I wouldn't read too much into it.

On a serious note it would/will be very interesting to find out wot the score is with a polish 'divorce' settlement.. I imagine If Poland is a net receiver of EU funds compared to the UK as a net contributer, my logic would say they should be given any money they've already been promised which just seems bonkers (as does the whole divorce settlement thing altogether)
