Vince Green
Sir David King, who was chief scientific advisor to both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown has decided to set up a rival advisory group to the Government's SAGE group. Despite not having a medical background Sir David, who has been an outspoken supporter of Extinction Rebellion, feels he could do a better job. Or does he want to just cause trouble and spread disagreement and controversy? what other aim could he have? His track record with extinction rebellion shows a willingness to express radical views and endorse civil disobedience. Walker570
They are all popping up like nettles in a flower patch. I see Piers Morgan has shot his bolt as well. I read that May is also raking it in going round lecturing everyone who wil listen on how it should all be done. They amaze me these failed politicians BUT there are similar folk out there who will pay large sums to listen to them. Scully
While at an art fair in Kelso all the talk was of lockdown and none of us would have been surprised to get instructions to pack up and go home at any minute, one of the gallery employees, whom I’ve known for a while, seemed quite chirpy this was happening, and said as a member of ‘extinction rebellion ‘ they had been predicting this for some time. ‘Really?’ I asked. She didn’t answer, just smiled. Later in the week she told me her son was having to fly home from his ‘gap year’ job in Sri Lanka, and when we were packing up I noticed she was getting through as much bubble wrap and tape as anyone else! 😂 Hilarious! wyn
I think the reduction in economic activity and perceived benefits, during lockdown is going to be used by people like XR to further their agenda. I read something but can't find it now, that some people in the UN think lockdown should last forever to save the planet. I think "wild justice" would also be looking at the past few weeks with little pest control going on, as evidence that their cause is the right one. toontastic
Kay Burley mentioned a cost of 250bn by the end of the year. Where do the supporters of permanent lockdown think the money is coming from.

JohnfromUK
It seems that he has assembled a team (backed by unknown financial backers) who are virtually all lefties or hard lefties, and all remainers ........... which is obviously ideal for producing impartial advice. This is the man whose advice was to switch to diesel cars to reduce pollution. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8286797/GUY-ADAMS-Ex-science-tsar-Sir-David-King-told-switch-diesel.html

This retouches on the discussion we were having recently around harping on about things in the past that are not relevant to the here and now. I can see the attraction in the rise of a leftie force for the Government, as they could use that as an "excuse" / blame for cutting back on the extent of promises made previously which are certainly no clearer in terms of the details than they were pre COVID... Vince Green
This is already in a thread that I started (Another snout in the trough) perhaps the mods could merge them? The article is certainly from the Mail, but I am assuming the 'mini biographies' they have published are 'factual'. I suspect it would be easy enough to check most of it, but I'm not going to volunteer! On them all being remainers .......... I think it simply shows that this is a group of 'like minds' and that doesn't usually bode well for impartiality and being able to 'see all points of view'. The present 'real' sage have now published their names (all except two I believe who didn't want to be named) - and I have not researched their backgrounds, but I would expect them to be a rather broader range of views than Sir David King's group. 10 minutes ago, Raja Clavata said: This retouches on the discussion we were having recently around harping on about things in the past that are not relevant to the here and now. Sir David King advised the Blair and Brown governments. I don't know what policies resulted directly from his advice ......... but he was a big supporter of getting Joe Public to move to diesel cars (to save carbon) - in which narrow sense he was right - they do produce less carbon. However - subsequent 'wisdom' is that it was an incorrect and shortsighted policy - which ignored the broader science. As an expert adviser, I think past shortcomings in their advice should be considered - as it brings into question their suitability. This is not afterall - an elected person, merely a 'self appointed' person who seems to have the ears to the press and others with loud voices.
