BUSKERs, awful people.

I had to nip in to Stamford in Lincolnshire this morning to do some maintenance at a dress shop.

I was extremely lucky to find a 2 hour parking space and set off for the shop.

I had to go past four absolutely awful buskers, begging in the town.

Why they are allowed to use a battery powered amplifier is beyond me?

Not one of them was worth listening to, not sure how much they make, but they couldn't cut it on the stage.

Saw one in Dublin back in the summer who was quite good. She was playing covers of EDM songs using a Cello, Violin and a Cajon Drum with a mixing foot peddle to switch between the instruments and relay one over the other. Also singing a mixture of her own and original lyrics over the top. Quite a one dimensional act but certainly UK talent show quality.

On the whole though they sometimes quite dire. I do admire their courage as playing an instrument and singing in front of a crowd certainly isn't something I have the talent or balls to do.

Anyone who frequented Cardiff's Queen street in the last 10 years will be familiar with Toy Mic Trev who was famous for butchering hits through a fake, childs toy microphone. He must have been quite a character to have done that for well over a decade.

Saw one in York just before Christmas ,really really good and very innovative .

He was playing an electric guitar through multiple effect pedals ,a simple keyboard with on-board percussion , a mandolin and a banjo .

This was all connected to a basic home recording set up ,started with the percussion from the keyboard , then the bass from the same keyboard . once this loop was up and running he added various keyboard sounds followed by around six or so different guitar sounds through the pedal and then the banjo and mandolin finally some very nice vocals .Lots of children were watching  absolutely fascinated by his musical  skill and the way his song grew .To be honest it was one of those occasions when you thought you had been watching for 5-10 minutes when actually it was nearer 30 or so minutes of very enjoyable street entertainment .

At the end of the day, be they good bad or indifferent, most, are only people trying to get by which ever way they can.

Indeed, if you like it give, if not don't

If they got on with it without the awful amplification it would be far better.

I like them.
There’s a young lad in town who my daughter tells me once appeared on X Factor or one of those such programmes.
He has an amp and a fabulous voice and seems to be very popular.
There was a bloke in Amsterdam sat playing an amplified piano on one of the canal bridges. He was superb!

A guy from York was busking outside Woolworths (1996) and got noticed by a friend of a friend of another musician who was forming a band. The other musician was John Squire from The Stone Roses. A year later the busker (Chris Helme) and the Bass player (Stuart Fletcher) also from York who Squire picked up during a gig at a local club were playing in front of thousands of people at Glastonbury. If it wasn’t for Squire being such a pr*ck they would have gone and done a lot more. Evidence below of Squire playing far too loud and wanting the limelight and destroying the lyrics.

He is playing freestyle just like the artist. please take into account there is no backing band.

Another freestyle with Mark asking if he can play something by Mark Knopfler , the artist doesn`t realise who he is though.

Two good ones i have seen, Bemuzic, lady who plays a cigar box guitar etc in Cambridge, nice gentle stuff with a lovely voice.

Lewis Floyd Henry, this guy is like Hendrix reincarnated, does his own fusion of rock & metal with a rap twist, stunningly skilled guitarist, often plays Brick lane in London.
