samboy
Hi gang. Just been told that my ring door bell is going up from £35 to £50 a year. That seems a big hike. Time for a cancellation me thinks.

39TDS
I have one in my garden keeping an eye on my geese. Poor pic because it's raining. I have 5 geese though, wonder where the other two are?

Don’t they just eat the grass?
39TDS
Embden geese, they are pets these days but we do eat goose. Yes they pretty much do just eat grass but I throw them a bit of wheat each day. The damned fox keeps thinning them out, did have 50 at one time. Have just bought a new shed and as soon as I make a gate for it will be shutting them up for the night. They are fenced in and electric fence as well but the fox eventually finds its way in. Embden geese, they are pets these days but we do eat goose. You may need a PoE power supply (£12ish) if you don’t already have one.
Zoli 12 guage
i also got my ring storage contract price increase email and a near on 50% price increase is absolutely ridiculous. i have a spare one Terabyte hard drive laying around gathering dust that I'd like to utilise as opposed to paying the ring thieves for the privilege. do any of you guys know if this is possible or not? TIA

TIA Potentially yes if Ring devices are ONVIF compatible then any ONVIF compatible network video recorder should be able to pick up the video feed and record it. I know the Ring app and software can take a feed from an ONVIF camera but I'm not 100% sure if it works the other way around. There'll be plenty of videos on youtube explaining how to do it. If you're not that IP network savvy then it's best left to a professional. Alternatively, ditch the Ring equipment and use standard wired and wireless IP CCTV systems. Most are plug and play these days and very simple to setup.

Possible yes, but I suspect you'd spend more on hardware to turn said drive into an NVR than a suitable camera would cost. By all means if you want a project, but I'd suggest just stump up for a contract-free camera like I've linked to above, and with the time saved go out shooting instead... Miserableolgit
We have a number of CCTV cameras around the property and buildings linked to secure HD recorders etc. My son bought us a Ring doorbell camera a year or two ago and I have that set up on the pedestrian access gatepost. It's handy as the dogs have free access around the house.
Westley
My Son in Law, who has his own alarm installation business, fitted this for us. It has been in for over 12 months now and seems to do all that we need. Just a one off payment, no monthly fees. It pings my phone if it is activated. Hard wired cameras can be circumvented with a balaclava.. Everything has a back door or a hole that can be exploited (stop laughing at the back).. Security is about building up multiple layers of deterents which make any potential intruder look for an easier target instead. CCTV, video doorbell, intruder alarm, barking dogs, PIR flood lighting and physical security such as enhanced door and window locks and locked gates are about as good as it gets for home security these days. Stephen-H
Martin Lewis has done a piece about If you unsubsribe & then renew it apparently it goes through at the £35 rate again? Worth a try 👍 https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2024/02/ring-doorbell-increases-price/ Edited February 10 by Stephen-H
samboy
Hi gang. Just cancelled my ringbell subscription and got a small refund. I can still see and talk to who's at the door but cannot keep multiple recordings. I've got cctv so that will do for me.
ShootingEgg
I have two toucan camera's, one on front door one on the garage. Got it on the free subscription at the moment. But if I ever need to I can pay a fee
Miserableolgit
Just checked my Ring account and fortunately it renewed earlier this month so prior to the price hike. Won't be renewing next year.
Minky
You haven't got enough infrared illumination on those geese. If you get a decent illuminator and not a grannies path torch. A. You can see what's going on out there, and B. people can see that they can be seen and recorded. Deterrent factor.
