TIGHTCHOKE Posted Saturday at 08:21 Report Share Posted Saturday at 08:21 It would appear that Bristol Council and its subcontractors are considering emptying black bins every fourth week. https://fishpondsvoice.co.uk/2024/11/13/black-bin-collections-face-cut-to-once-every-four-weeks/ That should lead to a lot of rubbish just dumped absolutely anywhere. I wonder what these fools in power think they are there for? Once fly tipping starts, people just add to the pile as it becomes "normal" to do so. Dougy Posted Saturday at 08:37 Report Share Posted Saturday at 08:37 Allot of councils mismanaged their budgets and over spent, knowingly they hadn't got the money. And of course still continue to pay those staff that signed off the cheques. Of course we all gave to pay all this back some way, those that made the mess wont !!! TIGHTCHOKE Posted Saturday at 08:43 Author Report Share Posted Saturday at 08:43 If it starts at one place it will soon be the standard that they will all seem to accept. Luckily I have the largest black bin, which for a two bedroom house with only one occupant should not be a problem. If it does come in, I will leave it at the very furthest point of my property to avoid the foul smell during the warmer months. Although not so far to be reprimanded for not bringing my bin in. ShootingEgg Posted Saturday at 09:07 Report Share Posted Saturday at 09:07 (edited) Oh joy Bristol will be even more untidy that it currently is. I'm about 15 miles south and we have collections twice a month, and that fills out bin. So adding a week or two on will surely mean alot of waste sat not able to be out in and collected Edited Saturday at 09:09 by ShootingEgg
mel b3 Posted Saturday at 10:19 Report Share Posted Saturday at 10:19 (edited) Officialy , the idea is , to force residents to recycle , to reach ridiculous government recycling targets . The reality is that council tax is being wasted on a million different things , that will benefit very few people. Another reality , is that fly tipping won't really increase . Decent people won't Start fly tipping because of this , they'll carry on being decent people , and the filthy scumbag fly tippers , will just carry on being filthy scumbags. Edited to add. The really scruffy areas , filled with really scruffy people , will carry on having extra waste collected. amateur Posted Saturday at 12:26 Report Share Posted Saturday at 12:26 (edited) Winter of discontent all over again, except instead of striking bin men, it's idiotic councils who always seem to have enough cash for the CEO's salary and to pursue LBGT etc policies, but not the fundamentals of their existence. BUT, how is encouraging the householder to recycle more going to change what has to go in to landfill? The local authority that I work for , very rarely landfill waste. The recyclable waste gets recycled , and the rest gets incinerated to produce electricity. The problem is , that lots of people don't recycle , and local authorities are trying to force those people into recycling, by not collecting waste as often. Councils get paid for recycleable waste , but they have to pay to incinerate or landfill other waste. It has nothing to do with saving the planet , it's just to raise more cash to spend on eeerrr worthy projects. A perfect example is greenwaste collection. You were already paying to have greenwaste collected , through your council tax . Councils said it was a free service , but in the real world , free doesn't exist. You're greenwaste service , is now a chargeable service, so now you're paying for it twice. If you collect 1000 tons of greenwaste , and 1000 tons of refuse , then on paper 50% of your waste has been recycled, but in reality , nothing has changed for the better ( except you didnt need to take it to the tip yourself). Leaves have been falling from trees , almost from the beginning of time , but the earth recycles them perfectly well , without human intervention. What does happen , is that thousands of truck belch out fumes , all around the country every day( im one of the guilty drivers), and the council gets to charge you twice , for something that you didn't need anyway. Don't get me started on the dirty greenwaste that's getting ploughed into farmers fields as a so called green fertiliser. It's just diluted refuse , and is turning farms into huge landfill sites. I have seen this so called greenwaste on farmers fields when I used to metal detect , you could not move many inches for copper wire and ally all to eventually get into the food chain . Rendering field useless like you say . The poor farmers did not have a clue. .

TOPGUN749 Posted Saturday at 14:13 Report Share Posted Saturday at 14:13 Won’t see the council tax reduced though! Still have all the high paid staff in their offices “or working from home” the new trend!
mel b3 Posted Saturday at 14:15 Report Share Posted Saturday at 14:15 4 minutes ago, islandgun said: Err so whats this dirty green waste stuff your dont want to be started on 😉 It's greenwaste , that has general refuse mixed in with it . We do our best to remove it (if you can spot it), but if it's hidden at the bottom of a bin , then you can't see it. Some of the bigger stuff will get removed when the truck is emptied, and it becomes visible , but most of it just gets shredded along with the greenwaste . Councils will tell you that it all gets removed , but the reality is , removing it costs money , so it doesn't happen. Once it's shredded , it's not easy to see , so farmers taking the green fertiliser, will be none the wiser , until it's too late. Eventually the greenwaste will rot away , and all the contaminated waste will be sitting in the topsoil for hundreds of years. This is something that I can see becoming even more of an issue, as people try to hide general waste in greenwaste bins , because the council aren't collecting refuse as often. wymberley Posted Saturday at 14:25 Report Share Posted Saturday at 14:25 Smart move by stepson was moving from Bristol to Portishead where the recycling centre staff are there to help you and not themselves and friendly with it.
amateur Posted Saturday at 14:29 Report Share Posted Saturday at 14:29 Many years ago, the local water company was selling dried "fertiliser" to spread on the garden. Which was fine until it rained, then the smell told you that it had originated from the sewage farm.

Good shot? I am more or less exactly the same , I have a peddle bin in my kitchen and is very rarely more than half full when the two weekly rubbish collection roll round , if I have anything reasonably heavy then that go straight in the black bin liner so I don't have to handle it twice , I could easily go monthly but then again I am by myself and I do have my recycle bin at least three quarter's full when that is also emptied every two weeks , I do tidy both the front and back garden just to make it worthwhile in putting the Black bin out , with no garden rubbish then I would leave it monthly .
